Disappearing Nine Patch

Ich habe wieder einen Quilt fertig. Jetzt sind die drei Decken für meinen Neffen und meine beiden Nichten endlich fertig. Zur Zeit habe ich noch nichts Neues geplant - obwohl meine Mutter im April 70 wird und auch wohl gerne mal einen neuen Quilt hätte.
Den disappearing nine patch habe ich komplett mit der Maschine genäht (bis auf das Binding auf der Rückseite) und anschließend mit der Stickmaschine gequiltet. Und erstaunlicherweise bin ich wieder mal zufrieden. Entweder sinken meine Ansprüche, oder meine Quilts sind einfach schön :-)
Auf der Rückseite reichte der Stoff nicht ganz und ich habe einen Streifen aus dem Bindingstoff eingesetzt.

My next finish! And - to my surprise - I like this quilt. This is the third and last quilt I made for my brother´s kids. There are no real plans right now, even though my Mom will turn 70 in April and would probably be more than thrilled to receive a new quilt.
This quilt was machine sewn (except for the binding which I did handsew to the back) and machine quilted. (There you go Shay...got me hooked).
The fabric for the backing wasn´t quite enough and I therefore added a strip from the same fabric I made the binding off.

Dann habe ich noch einen weiteren Mug Rug fertig gemacht, der schon zu Schwiegermutter umgezogen ist.
I also finished another MugRug which already went to my mother-in-law´s house.

Jetzt habe ich nochmal eine Frage an alle Quilter: Ich habe bisher meine Quilts immer mit Schrägband (selbstgeschnitten) eingefasst und bei den HS kam jetzt ein Thread auf in dem es ziemlich kontrovers diskutiert wurde, dass man das Binding auch bequem mit gerade geschnittenem Stoff machen kann. Bei diesem Quilt habe ich das nun so gemacht und bin mir gerade nicht mehr so sicher, ob das eine gute Idee war.
Wie macht ihr das??? Warum?? Vielleicht nutzt ihr ja auch beides...wann dann welches?
And now I have a question to all the quilters around:
So far I have always cut my binding on the bias and not long ago, a few people here in Germany told me that they ALWAYS use straight edge binding. Since I was too lazy to cut bias binding this time I used straight grain binding and now am wondering whether that was such a good idea.
How do you cut your binding and why and when do you prefer one way or the other?

FTF - Mug Rug

Ich habe meinen ersten Mug Rug ITH gestickt! Juchuuuuu ...ich bin so happy!!! Diese Maschine ist der absolute Hit und damit auch mein FTF für den heutigen Tag.

FNSI / Baby Quilt

Gestern Abend war wieder Freitagnachtnähen mit Heidi. Wenn Ihr sehen wollt, was die anderen über hundert Teilnehmer so alles gemacht haben, klickt auf den Button in meinem Sidebar.
Ich habe mich hingesetzt und stundenlang Schrägband geschnitten. Dabei habe ich gleich das erste Problem gehabt, denn ich hatte das Schrägband zu knapp geschnitten; bzw. den Stoff zu knapp kalkuliert und mußte das Schrägband dann 3,5 cm schneiden. Angenäht habe ich es vorne mit der Maschine, das war auch kein Problem - aber hinten hatte ich irgendwie kaum noch was zum Umschlagen. Nun ja - ich habe geflucht, genäht, geschimpft - und bin fertig geworden!!
Aber insgesamt bin ich ganz zufrieden. Es war das erste Mal das ich mit meiner Stickmaschine versucht habe ein Quilt zu quilten und ich finde es ist ganz gut geworden.

Last night I finally got to participate in FNSI with Hiedi. In case you are interested to see what the more than 100 other participants did, click on my side bar.
I decided to finish up my Baby Quilt. I made the bias binding and miscalculated the fabric I needed. Therefore I could only cut the binding 1,25" which after sewing it onto the front, left very little fabric to sew to the back. I tried swearing, sewing, fighting and in the end I succeeded and I finished the Quilt. I think it turned out o.k. It was the first time I tried quilting a quilt with my embroidery machine. And I am very happy about the way it turned out.

Heute ist wieder FTF bei Shay und ich habe mal wieder einen Grund mitzumachen und einen Post zu schreiben.
Meinen heutigen Post möchte ich meiner Tochter Annika widmen.
Sie macht mich im Moment soooo stolz, dass ich fast platze. Ich muss etwas ausholen, damit ihr versteht warum (denn natürlich bin ich auf alle meine Kinder stolz, aber eben im Moment ein bischen mehr auf Annika).
Alles fing in der achten Klasse an. Meine Tochter wurde gemobbt. Zuerst ist man als Mutter ein wenig verunsichert - spinnt das Kind, oder spinnen die anderen. Dann gab es Gespräche mit dem Lehrer und mir wurde immer versichert, dass das Mädchen gut in der Klasse integriert wäre und er keine Anzeichen von Mobbing sehen würde.
Doch irgendwie wird frau ihr Bauchgefühl nicht los und ich wußte da stimmt etwas nicht. Häufige Bauchschmerzen, schlechter werdende Noten usw. Also setzten wir alles daran, dass sie die Klasse wechseln durfte, was uns aber verweigert wurde. Kurz vor Ende der Sommerferien eskalierte das Ganze und sie bekam eine SMS von einer Klassenkameradin mit klaren Morddrohungen. Also wir wieder in die Schule und wieder diskutiert - warum ich das so lange durchgehalten habe, weiß ich heute nicht und es tut mir unendlich leid, dass ich nicht vorher eingegriffen habe. Es wurde ein Gespräch angesetzt am "runden" Tisch, dass Annika als die Böse hinstellte und es änderte sich kaum etwas an der Situation. Urton des Vaters der Mitschülerin: " So reden die nun mal untereinander. Da muss sie sich eben ein dickeres Fell anschaffen".
Annikas Noten wurden so schlecht, dass sie letzten Endes die neunte Klasse wiederholen mußte (Mathe, Englisch, POWI 5 und die anderen Fächer nicht viel besser).Und mittlerweile waren die Lücken natürlich riesengroß.
Nachdem sie sich in der neuen Klasse gut eingewöhnt hatte und einen verständnisvolleren Lehrer hatte, gelang es ihr am Ende der zehnten Klasse einen akzeptablen Realschulabschluss hinzubekommen.
Und scheinbar machte ihr Schule auch wieder ein klein bischen Spaß, denn sie überlegte sich, dass sie gerne das Fachabitur machen würde.
Und jetzt kommt der Hammer!! Im kommenden Zeugnis hat Annika in Englisch, Wirtschaftsenglisch und POWI je eine eins, in Mathe eine zwei. Insgesamt bekommt sie einen Durchschnitt von 1,66...das ist der Hammer, nachdem was dieses Kind durchgemacht hat, hat sie dafür meine absolute Bewunderung!!! Hut ab Töchterchen!! Ich bin stolz auf dich!

It is Friday again and today I have a special reason to take part in FTF with Shay. My favourite today is my daughter Annika (and yes I love all my children, but I am sooooo proud of her at the moment).
It all started in eighth grade. Annika was mobbed by some class mates. At first I wondered if me, her or everybody else was out of their mind. But after a while I realized that she truely had a problem with her class. Her teacher wasn't helpful since he decided that she was not having a problem with the other students, but that she was simply lazy and unwilling. It got worse every week and we wanted her to switch into another class but the head of the school was against that, since there was no problem. By the end of summer that year she even got a short messsage on her mobile saying her class mate would kill her in case she showed up at school. Well even that wasn´t enough, cause the teacher and parents said it was all her fault and she shouldn´t be so whiny. I honestly don´t know why I put up with that crap for so long - and I am awefully sorry for not having been able to help my child more in that situation.
In ninth grade her grades got worse and she was more or less and an "F" average. (English, Math, History, political science all F) Constant stomach aches, lots of tears and so on. Well to make a long story short she finally had to go to ninth grade again and got new teachers and new class mates. But by than she had missed so much in school, cause she couldn´t pay attention at all, that it was more than hard to keep up with everyone. By the end of tenth grade her grades were somewhere around a "C" average and we were quite happy.
She obviously started to like going to school a little more and asked if she could go on for another two years to get a better degree (which in Germany we call Fachabitur).
She is going to get her first report card in eleventh grade somewhere in the next two weeks, but we already know that she will have straight A's in English, political science and buisiness english and a B in math.
I am soooo proud of my little girl. She is amazing!!! Way to go Annika!!

Kleine Geschenke / Small gifts

Heute habe ich einen weiteren langersehnten Wunsch erfüllt und einige Geschenke zur Bevorratung gearbeitet. Schon lange war ich der Meinung ich müßte mal ein paar Sachen bevorraten, vor allem im Hinblick darauf, dass die Zeit in 2012 vermutlich recht knapp sein wird. Und so sind aus den Probestickereien und Resten die Tischsets und Mug Rugs entstanden. Ich freue mich :-)

Today I fulfilled another long desired wish. I finally got to fill my gift giving box a little. For a long time I had been thinking I needed some small giveaways and gifts for all occasions, especially since time will be scarce in 2012. So I took my practice embroideries and some scraps and ended up with these mug rugs and place mats. I am happy :-).

Und endlich ist es vollbracht - das Quilt für meinen Neffen ist fertig und ich bin bin schwer zufrieden, denn es gefällt mir richtig gut.
Handgequiltet immer an den dunkelgrünen Streifen entlang und am Ende noch einmal rund herum an dem hellgrünen Rand mit der Maschine.

And finally - here it is- the quilt for my nephew. Did I already name that Baby? Well whatever, I like it and I am satisfied.

Mein neues Baby / My new Baby

Sie ist gestern bei mir eingezogen. Nach langen intensiven Überlegungen in denen ich jahrelang mein Mantra "ich brauch keine Sticki" wiederholte, habe ich mich nun doch dazu entschlossen mir eine Stickmaschine zuzulegen.
Es war, so denke ich, an der Zeit mir etwas Gutes zu tun. Nachdem ich dann eine Husquvarna H Class 600 und eine Brother Innovis 750 E Probe genäht hatte, habe ich mich für letztere entschieden und durfte sie gestern beim Händler abholen.
Hier möchte ich mich ganz herzlich bei Nähmaschinen Ernst in Fuldatal für den tollen Service, den ich bisher genießen durfte bedanken...echt klasse!!! So was erlebt frau heute selten.

She moved in!! Yesterday I got to pick up my new embroidery machine. I had been debating with myself for years, saying I don´t need an embroidery machine. But a few weeks ago I found that it was about time I spent some money on myself and I decided to fulfill a wish I had had for a very long time.
So I went to diffferetn places to try out different machines and ended up liking the Brother Innovis 750 E best.
The dealer I went to was awesome! I have hardly ever experinced such kind of service here in Germany! Thank you very much, Mrs. & Mr. Ernst:

Und natürlich habe ich auch sofort angefangen etwas zu Sticken. Ich finde das Stickbild sehr schön und habe auch gleich etwas mit meinen "Probestickerein" angefangen.

And of course I started stitching right away. I like the outcome and tried to use my "practice" pieces right away.

Dann habe ich ein Nine Patch eingespannt und ein Quiltmotiv reingestickt. Das gefällt mir sehr gut und ich werde versuchen, dass Quilt für meine Nichte, dass ich im Moment in Arbeit habe, so zu quilten. Mal sehen, ob die Stickmaschine einen ganzen Quilt schafft. Angeblich soll das kein Problem sein.
After a few sticheries I sandwiched a nine patch and put it in the frame. Than I stitched a quilt design into the middle block. I really like the way that looks and will be quilting my nieces quilt like that. I wonder if the machine will be able to handle a whole quilt - she is supposed to.

Ansonsten arbeite ich fleißig am Quilt für meinen Neffen. Das Binding ist dran und muß heute Abend noch von Hand angenäht werden.
Other than that I have been working on my nephew´s quilt. I sewed on the binding with the machine today and have to handsew the binding onto the back tonight.

2011 und Neues für 2012/ 2011 and new in 2012

Ein Jahr geht zu Ende und es ist an der Zeit mal kurz zusammenzufassen was so alles passiert ist.
Wir haben zwei kurze Urlaube auf La Palma und in London verbracht; ein Kind hat die mittlere Reife geschafft und sich entschlossen weiter zur Schule zu gehen (Freude!), ein Kind hat den Ausbildungsplatz gewechselt, eines der Kinder war 3 Monate in London mit allen auf und abs und ich bin im Sommer in den Bundesvorstand unseres Berufverbands gewählt worden und habe mir einen Haufen Zusatzarbeit an Land gezogen.
Ich habe 14 "nicht Fach" Bücher gelesen und über 40 Teile genäht und gestrickt. Ich habe jede Menge Sachen von meiner 101/1001 Liste abgearbeitet undviel zu viel Zeit im Internet mit dem Lesen von all den schönen Blogs verbracht.
Also alles in allem ein verrücktes, aber gutes Jahr.

Ich wünsche allen meinen Lesern ein erfolgreiches und glückliches neues Jahr und freue mich auf 2012 und Euch!!!

Und um das Jahr 2012 gut anzufangen habe ich in meinem Näh-/Hobbyzimmer ausgemistet und einen Tausch-/ Verkaufsblog aufgemacht. Also wenn ihr Stempel, Bücher zum Thema Basteln und Handarbeiten, Sticksachen, Stoffe etc sucht, dann lohnt es sich ab sofort immer wieder mal da hin zu schauen oder Leser des Blogs zu werden damit ihr nichts verpasst.

Ich werde Preise angeben, aber alles ist verhandelbar und ich tausche auch. Macht mir ein Angebot :-)

Another year is coming to an end and it is time to resume what happened in 2011. Well, we went on two short trips to La Palma and London; my daughter finished high school and decided to keep on going to school; my son changed is field of employment from bank to Air Force; my step daughter spent three months in London with lots of ups and downs; I got elected as a representative on the board of the German Federal Association of Logopedics and gained a lot of extra work.

I read 14 books, sewed or knitted over 40 pieces and got a lot of things on my 101/1001 list done.

All in all a wild but good year.

I am wishing all of my blog readers a wonderful year 2012, success, happiness and good health.

And since I want to get a good start in 2012 I sorted out my sewing room and decided to part from a lot of things I don´t need any longer. So if you are interested in rubber stamping, cross stitching, crafting books, a.s.o. you shouldn´t miss my new trade/sell blog.

I am going to start writing there in German, but feel free to ask if you need more information. Some of the books are in German, others are in English. I will give prices, but everything is negociable :-)

Jaja, ich gebe es ja ungern zu, aber irgendwie kriege ich momentan den Dreh nicht zum Schreiben.
Nachdem ich am Dienstag noch einmal beruflich in Berlin war, habe ich mich seitdem in der freien Zeit, die mir zwischen Weihnachtsvorbereitungen und dem Besuch meiner Mutter noch blieb, ausführlich mit dem Thema Stickmaschine beschäftigt. Ich schwirre da schon lange drum herum und mal sehen, ob das irgendwann etwas wird.
Für den Moment bleibt mir nur euch allen eine schöne Weihnachtszeit zu wünschen. Ruhe, Frieden und Besinnlichkeit.

I know, I promised to be more active, but I haven´t gotten around to blogging at all. The little time that was left between entertaining my Mom who is visiting and preparing for christmas I spent searching prices and details for embroidery machines. I wanted to have one of those for ages and who knows - maybe one day I´ll get one.
For now all that is left to say is :

Das neu ICH / the new ME

Ach was war das schön. Gestern hatte ich endlich mal seit ewigen Zeiten einen freien Freitag und gleichzeitig hatte meine Friseurin auch noch Zeit...das war wie Weihnachten und Neujahr an einem Tag und ich fühle mich seit dem wie neu geboren :-)

What a day. I had the day off yesterday. And surprisingly my hairdresser also had time for an appiontment and I actually got my hair cut (which I had been planning to do for about seven weeks now - can you imagine how aweful I looked). I feel reborn!

FTF / Bald ist Weihnachten

...und so langsam kehrt auch bei mir ein wenig Weihnachtsstimmung ein. Der Baum steht seit letztem Wochenende und es kommen jeden Tag einige Kleinigkeiten dazu. Ich muss noch 2 Tage arbeiten und habe dann fast drei Wochen Urlaub. Ich freue mich riesig. Und da dieses der letzte FTF Post dieses Jahres ist ist mein Lieblingsteil dieses Mal mein Tannenbaum. Schon seit fast zwanzig Jahren stellen wir den Baum gute zwei Wochen vor Weihnachten auf und jeder der ein Geschenk hat oder kriegt, legt es unter den Baum. Ich finde das sehr schön, denn es steigert bei mir die Vorfreude auf Weihnachten und der Duft von Tannennadeln, Harz, Weihnachtsplätzchen etc. macht eine schöne Stimmung.
Ich hoffe ihr könnt auch langsam ein bischen runterfahren und zur "Besinnung" kommen.
Danke, dass ihr immer nochmal vorbei schaut auch wenn ich seltener schreibe. Und wenn Ihr Zeit habt dann schaut doch mal bei Shay vorbei, wer am letzten FTF des Jahres noch alles teilnimmt.

Almost Christmas and finally I am getting a bit into the spirit of X-mas. We put up our tree last weekend and everyday someone puts another small package under the tree. It is very unusual to put up your tree this early in Germany (most people put theirs up on the 24th) but I like the smell of the fresh cut tree and the feeling the lit up tree leaves in the house. Therefore this is my FTF for today: Our Christmas tree.
I only have to work for two more days and than I will be off for almost three weeks. I am utterly excited :-)
I hope you are also slowing down a bit and are having time to think about the true meaning of christmas.

Snow & a change of plans /Schnne und eine Planänderung

So sah es gestern aus, als ich aus dem Fenster in meiner Praxis geschaut habe. Pünktlich zum Nikolaus hatten wir den ersten Schnee im Tal...ich mag die Ruhe und den Frieden den der Schnee ausstrahlt und vor allem genieße ich täglich die schöne Aussicht - Sommer wie Winter.
This is what a view from my office looked like yesterday. We had the first snow. I love the piece and quite snow brings into this world. And I enjoy the nice view everyday I go into work.

Und da ich bei diesem Wetter auch Zeit hatte, habe ich ein wenig nachgedacht, was ich aus meinem SWAP mache. Da mir die Schnitte eigentlich einzeln sehr gut gefallen und ich auch einiges zum Kombinieren im Schrank habe, habe ich beschlossen, dass ich noch ein oder zwei Teile davon nähe. Allerdings lege ich mir nicht den Zwang auf, das alles zusammen passen muss. Und gestern habe ich gleich mit dem Kleid losgelegt.
Da ich im Winter lieber eine Tunika mit Stiefel trage, habe ich das Kleid um 10 cm gekürzt. Die Ärmel habe ich begradigt. Ansonsten ist alles so geblieben wie es sein soll. Genäht aus Viskosejersey in Gr 42.

And since I had some time to think I took my time to decide what to do with my SWAP. I don`t want to be frustrated sewing - that is not the idea I have of spending my free time. I do like the single pieces and I have a bunch of clothes in my closet that match nicely. Therefore I decided that I will go on sewing a few more pieces, but I am not going to force myself to where I HAVE to wear the pieces together.
Having made that decision, I was motivated and started working on the dress. Since I freeze a lot in winter I didn´t want a real dress, but was looking for a tunic top to go with boots and a tighter pair of pants. And...tadaaaaaaaaaa..here is my new tunic top...I LOVE IT!!! I shortened the original pattern by 10 cm and straightened the sleeves. The rest is a size 16 in a nice jersey fabric.

Jetzt brauche ich nur noch einen neuen Haarschnitt und dann sehe ich wieder aus wie ein Mensch :-)
Now all I need is a new hair cut and I will look human again :-)

2.Advent / 21 days til x-mas

Ich lebe noch...ja es gibt mich noch. Ich bin manchmal selbst erstaunt, aber es ist wahr. In den letzten Wochen mußte ich so ziemlich jeden Freitag und Samstag arbeiten, die Woche über ja sowieso, und zumeist mußte ich auch noch reisen und am Sonntag war dann meistens Wäsche waschen und bügeln dran. Zwischendrin war ich dann auch noch krank - naja.
I am still alive and kicking - unbelievable but true. I had to work most six out of seven days for the last few weeks and most of the time I was out of town on Fridays and Saturdays. Sundays were than reserved for doing my laundry :-( Than I caught a real bad cold, which is still bugging me (and has been for tha last four weeks!)

Aber dennoch habe ich etwas geschafft und so haben wir Plätzchen gebacken (danke an meinen superlieben Mann und meine beiden Töchter, die mich hier tatkräftig unterstützt haben); 2 Mutter-Tochter-Nähsonntage eingelegt und ich habe auch ein wenig selbst was gemacht. Nur zum Bloggen war keine zeit, weder zum Schreiben noch zum lesen auf euren wunderbaren Blogs. Und dafür möchte ich mich ganz doll entschuldigen.

But I did get a little bit done anyways. We baked Christmas cookies. Thanks to my lovely husband and my daughthers who helped so much). We spent two mother-daughther-sewing-sundays and I did get a few things done myself as well. I only didn´t get arpund to reading or commenting on all of your blogs. And I sincerly apologize.

Ich habe an meinem SWAP weiter gearbeitet und bin ziemlich enttäuscht. Der Rock, die Shirts, die Hose und die Jacke, die ich bislang genäht habe, sind allein allesamt gut tragbar - aber nicht gemeinsam. Also das was ich eigentlich wollte funktioniert wieder einmal nicht. Aber nichts desto trotz nähe ich jetzt gerade noch an der langen Version der Jacke. Ich habe die Ärmel drin und muß als nächstes die Halspasse nähen. Danach überlege ich mir dann, ob ich die Jacke noch ein wenig aufhübsche - wir werden sehen.
I continued sewing on my SWAP pieces and I am fairly disappointed. Each piece is o.k. by itself, but I cannot combine the two shirts, the pants, the skirt and the jacket I have sewn so far. Oh well. I am still working on the long version of the jacket and I am not giving in. Once I am finished I will decid whether or not I am going to embellish it a little bit.

Dann habe ich gestrickt. Da ich immer sehr schnell friere habe ich mich entschlossen mir Pulswärmer/Armstulpen oder wie auch immer man diese Dinge nenne will gestrickt. Und da meine Mädels auch welche haben wollen, habe ich gleich noch ein zweites Paar gestrickt (geht ja gut beim Bahn fahren) und das dritte Paar ist in Arbeit. (die sind in schwarz und sehr schlecht zu fotografieren).
Than I knitted. Since I am constantly cold I decided to knit some arm warmers and once mine were finished both girls wanted to have a pair too. So I already finished a black pair and I am working on the second one. (works well riding on the train)

Meine Tochter hatte sich vorgenommen einen Teil ihrer Weihnachtsgeschenke selber zu nähen und so kam es dass wir eine Fleecejacke und einen Kissenbezug mit Reißverschluss zusammen nähen durften.
Dann habe ich noch an den Quilts für meine Nichten und Neffen weiter gearbeitet, aber davon gibt es keine Bilder.
My daughther had decided to sew a few of her x-mas presents zhis year and needed help. So we ended up spending two Sundays sewing up a fleece jacket for her boyfriends Mom and a pillow for her boyfriend.

Erfreulicherweise habe ich auch noch an einem Tausch für Blumenstoffe teilgenommen und meine ganzen Streifen auch lange gestreichelt bis ich sie in eine Kiste gesteckt habe. (zusammen mit meinen neuen Errungenschaften....)

Fortunately I participated in a flower fabric SWAP. And I really like all the fabric I got.

Und als ich gestern mal wieder von einer unerfreulichen Bahnfahrt (wie fast immer war der Zug zu spät :-( ) nach Hause kam wartete ein Päckchen für mich zu Hause. Es war ein Adventkalender den Katharina für mich gemacht hatte (sie meinte ohne Adventkalender geht GAR nicht). Danke an dieser Stelle, liebe Katharina. Ich habe mich RIESIG gefreut. Und jeden Tag darf ich jetzt ein Päckchen unten abschneiden. So süß. Und so schöne Sachen sind da drin....Kekse, kleine Anhänger für meinen Baum, ein kleines Täschchen für meinen Schmuck, wenn ich auf Reisen bin...und mal sehen was moch alles kommt.

And I also got a wonderful surprise. When I returned home yesterday from another long trip on the train a small package was waiting here for me. My friend Katharina had sent it. We had talked earlier that week that I didn´t have an Advent Calender and she had decided that that was an absolute NO GO. So she made on for me and now I get to chop off one present each day until Christmas. Isn´t that lovely? Thanks so much Katharina.

And I got georgous presnts so far: cookies, a small snowman for my tree and this wonderful little pouch which I am going to use for my jewelry while traveling.

FTF - Er ist da...

...Freitag ist endlich da....hammerhart, aber selten habe ich mir einen Freitag so sehr gewünscht wie heute. Die ganze Woche hänge ich schon mit einer Erkältung in den Seilen und da ich nächste Woche durch Deutschland tingel (halb privat/halb beruflich) konnte ich auch nicht zu Hause bleiben und mich auskurieren. Aber heute - heute habe ich frei. Zumindest weitestgehend.
Letzte Woche wurde unsere Hündin kastriert und sie muss heute zum Fädenziehen. Sie hat alles gut überstanden und ist schon wieder der alte Wirbelwind.
Naja und dann ist heute auch wieder FTF bei Shay und ich mache mit.
Mein heutiges FTF ist unser neuer Kamin. Eigentlich hatten wir zwei Jahre lang überlegt einen Kachelofen zu bauen, aber das war schlichtweg nicht finanzierbar und so haben wir uns jetzt einen - wie ich finde - sehr schönen Kaminofen gekauft. Unser alter Ofen hielt den strengen Augen des Schornsteinfegers nicht mehr stand (der Ofen war schon im Haus, als wir es gekauft haben) und mußte ersetzt werden.
So sitze ich jetzt vor meinem Kaminfeuer und genieße den freien Tag!

....and finally Friday! I don´t know when I last waited this bad for Friady to come. I have been hanging around with a nasty cold for about a week and since I am travelling around Germany (half private/ have workrelated) for most of next week, I couldn´t stay away from my job at all this week. So here I am having been very excited for Friday to simply have arrived. I almost have no appointments today. The only thing I need to do is to take our dog to the vet. That´s it. And to celebrate FTF with Shay:
My favourite this week is our new fairplace. The old one had to be replaced and we had been thinking for about two years what to buy. And than we found this one. I love it! So here I am sitting on my couch at eight in the morning enjoying my fire place and Friday while it is foggy and nasty fall weather outside.

SWAP Probejacke/ SWAP practice piece

Wer meinen Blog regelmäßig verfolgt weiß, dass ich im Moment an einem SWAP arbeite. Nachdem Sabine, die auch mit swapt meinte, dass es sinnvoll wäre ein Probemodell zu nähen, da die Jacke sehr groß ausfällt, habe ich mich dazu entschieden, zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben, auch eine Probejacke zu nähen.
Nun ja, ich habe die Schnittteile vorher nachgemessen und mit den Maßen meiner Lieblingsjacke verglichen, um einen Anhaltspunkt zu haben. Dann habe ich zugeschnitten und angefangen zu nähen. Leider ist die Schnittführung bei diesem Modell so, dass man erst die Seitennähte schließt, dann die Ärmel einsetzt und dann erst die Schulter-/Halspasse dran näht. Und JETZT erst sieht man, ob das Teil passt oder nicht.
Da mir das recht schnell klar wurde, habe ich von Anfang an alles korrekt versäubert, denn ich wollte ja, wenn möglich, mein Probemodell auch anziehen können.
Und ich hatte Glück - die Jacke passt super. Genäht habe ich in Gr. 42, wobei ich die Jacke um 10 cm verlängert habe. Der Stoff ist ein Bizz Kidz Stoff, den ich eigentlich mal für einen Rock gekauft hatte, der aber für den Rock zu viel Stand hatte. Für die Jacke eignet er sich optimal. Und da ich pünktlich um halb sieben fertig war und wir um sieben ins Scala Variete in Fritzlar gehen wollten, habe ich die Jacke auch gleich Probe getragen.
Für das SWAP Modell habe ich mir ja einen dunkelbraunen Cord rausgesucht und jetzt überlege ich, ob ich da nicht besser lange Ärmel dran mache, als wieder die halben? Was meint Ihr?

If you read along here on a regular basis,you are well aware of the fact that I am trying to built a selfmade SWAP wardrobe. Sabine, who is joining in this event, suggested I sew a "trial" modell before sewing the actual SWAP piece, since she found, that the pattern runs pretty big. Well, since I am always open for suggestions and wanted to do things right for once, I listened and decided to use an old fabric I had lying around for a while to make the jacket. I cut out the pattern pieces in a size 16 and started sewing. Soon enough I realized that with the way the jacket is sewn it will be impossible to find out whether or not the jacket fits until it is nearly completly finished. So I decided I am going to do it right all the way and serged all the seams - in case the jacket fit I would at least be able to wear it.
And I was lucky! The jacket fit nicely. I added 10 cm in the length, that is the only change I had to make. The fabric is from Bizz Kidz and I had originally planned sewing a skirt with it but it ended up being to stiff for the pattern that I had intended to make.
And since we went out - again!! - last night, I wore it right away and I felt very comfortable.
Now I am contemplating whether I should add long sleeves - instead of the 3/4 ones - for the original SWAP jacket which I will be sewing out of dark brown corduroy. What do you think?

FTF oder Lieblingssachen-Freitag

Wie jeden Freitag hostet Shay auch heute wieder ihren Favourite Things Friday, wo jeder der mag sich an die schönen Dinge im Leben erinnert und auch postet was ihm heute besonders am Herzen liegt.
Mein heutiges FTF ist das

"geniale Novemberwetter".

Ist das nicht der Hammer. Ich liebe es...16° am 4.11., das habe ich glaube ich noch nicht erlebt. Ich habe heute sogar Wäsche raus gehängt. Hammerhart und ich genieße es. Morgens schon bei der ersten Hunderunde - nix Schal, Handschuhe, dicke Stiefel - nööö, einfach ne Jeansjacke drüber und gut. Genial....

As usual on Fridays I am participating in Favorite things Friday over at Shay´s Blog. Time to think about the wonderful things in life and post about those.
Today my favourite is the

"awesome November weather".

It is amazing and I love it. We - and this not the usual weather in the northern hemisphere in November, had 16° C today. I even hung out my laundry today to line dry. In November!!. I love this weather and it starts in the morning when I take my dog for a walk - no boots, scarf, warm jackets- ha, simply throw on a jean jacket and there you go.
I wish it would stay like this for a while.

Aber ich habe auch noch etwas genäht, worüber ich berichten kann. Vor einiger Zeit war ich mit meinen Mann in meinem Lieblingsstoffladen und er fand diesen Stoff, den er total Klasse fand.
But I also have a finish to talk about. A while ago my husband and I stopped by my fav. fabric shop and my husband found this fabric which he really liked.

Nun ja und da er sich nicht sooo häufig äußert zu Stoffen, habe ich ihn gleich mitgenommen ohne wirklich zu wissen, was ich daraus nähen würde. Nach einigen Tagen Bedenkzeit habe ich beschlossen eine "Ausgehbluse" für Besuch in Theater und Oper zu nähen...gesagt und getan und hier ist sie:

Erste Swap Erfolge / first SWAP pieces finished

Hier also nun die ersten Teile meine Simplicity SWAP.
Der Rock gefällt mir super, das Shirt ist gewöhnungsbedürftig. Mal sehen, ob ich es noch irgendwann anders stylen kann.Auf alle Fälle geht es gar nicht zusammen zu tragen, da sehe ich aus wie meine Großmutter.
Genäht habe ich in Gr. 18, wobei ich am Shirt mittig im Vorder- und Rückenteil ca. 1,5 cm rausgenommen habe und es um 5 cm verlängert habe. Zudem habe ich die Ärmel deutlich enger genäht :-) und an den Rock habe ich oben einen Bund mit Gummizug drangenäht, um zu verhindern, dass er ausleiert; ist ja schließlich Jersey.
Und jetzt ein paar Bilder...

Here are my first two SWAP pieces. The skirt is great, the shirt...well not really. And the two of them DO NOT go together!
I did sew a size 18, took out abot 1,5 cm in the middle of the front and back, added 5 cm in the length, sew small sleeves. The skirt has an added waistband, cause I was afraid the fabric was too "elastic" and I would end up loosing the skirt.

Die Kombi aufgepeppt mit Schal und kurzer Jeansjacke....nicht optimal aber so wenigstens tragbar.
The combination pepped up with a scarf and a short jeans-jacket, not great but wearable.

Und hier der Rock mit einem orange farbenen Strickrolli und Holzperlenkette - gefällt mir auch gut und ist super gemütlich.
The skirt combined with an orange colored knit turtle neck and a hand made wooden necklace. I like that combination especially because it is really comfortable.

Favourite Things Friday

Heute gibt es keine Bilder...denn dieser Post ist über etwas das ich gerne hätte:

eine funktionierende Digicam.

Im Moment ist der Wurm drin. Nachdem meine Spiegelreflexcamera vor einigen Monaten Flugstunden genommen hatten, konnte der Cameradoc Stefan, sie noch einmal mit WD 40 heilen und es ging eine ganze Weile gut. Von einem Tag auf den anderen ist das Schätzchen jetzt aber scheinbar doch seinen Unfallfolgen erlegen.

Und als ob das nicht reicht, hat die kleine Schwester auch beschlossen Macken zu haben und nur noch auf gutes Zureden ihren Dienst zu tun. Und nun habe ich ein Problem!!! O.K. nicht wirklich weltbewegend und es gibt Schlimmeres, aber grade im Moment wäre es schon nett, wenn ich ab und an ein Bild liefern könnte :-)

Aber immerhin habe ich schon einen Rock und ein Top fertig. Dazu mehr in Kürze.

Wer wissen will, womit sich andere Leute heute beschäftigen, kann ja mal bei Shay vorbei schauen

This is a post without pictures, since todays favourite is something I would like to have:

a working digital camera!!

Somehow or another these gadgets decided they won´t work for me anymore. After trying to teach my big camera to fly a few months ago, it finally suffered from the injuries and even WD 40 wouldn´t help this time. My camera is dead :-( And as if that wouldn´t be just enough the little baby camera decided to only work once in a while on a sunny day (which we don´t have - more like 12 hours of fog lately).

I think - as if anyone is interested in what I think - that it´s not fair. Especially right now with me working on my SWAP a few pictures here and there would be nice.

Well at least I already finished a skirt and a top. More on that soon.

Die Stoffe / the fabrics

Hier nun die Stoffe, die ich mir für den SWAP gedacht habe. Leider war es etwas schwierig bei diesem Wetter die dunklen Fraben zu fotografieren. Ich hoffe ihr könnt dennoch etwas erkennen.
Well here are the fabrics. I had a hard time getting pictures of the dark colors. I did my best though and hope you can still imagine just a little bit.

SWAP- Sewing with a plan /Nähen nach Plan

Der Gips ist zwar noch dran, aber ich möchte Euch heute von meinen Plänen erzählen. Schon vor ein paar Jahren habe ich einen Sommer SWAP gestartet, bei dem ich kläglich gescheitert bin. Jetzt gibt es einen Winter SWAP.
Doch von vorne. SWAP? Was ist das eigentlich. Anfang dieses Jahrtausends gab es in einer australischen Nähzeitschrift einen Artikel in dem es um das "Sewing With A Plan" ging, also um das Nähen nach Plan. Hierbei handelte es sich um eine Kombigarderobe. Die Idee der Autorin war, dass man sich elf Teile nach einem bestimmten Plan näht und diese elf Teile untereinander kombinierbar sein sollten. Dadurch kommt man im Ende auf 48 Kombinationsmöglichkleiten. Eine - meiner Meinung nach - geniale Idee für eine Basisgarderobe. Später kann man das Ganze dann variabel ergänzen, so lange man in einem bestimmten Farbschema bleibt, sollten auch die Ergänzungsteile gut kombinierbar sein. Die Autorin stellte aber auch noch eine genaue Ergänzungsgarderobe vor.

Für den Anfang schlägt sie vor:
Man nehme zwei unifarbene Stoffe ("Basisstoffe"), die ins eigene Farbschema passen und miteinander kombinierbar sind. Dazu kommt ein gemusterter Stoff, in dem die beiden Basisfarben vorkommen sollten. Die Schnitte, sagt sie, sollten bewährt und vor allem sehr schlicht sein, damit man sie gut kombinieren kann.

Dann wird genäht und zwar:
2 Hosen (je eine aus jedem Uni)
2 Röcke (einer in Uni und einer aus dem gemusterteen Stoff)
2 Oberteil - Shirts, Top oder Bluse (eines in Uni und eines aus dem gemusterten Stoff vom Rock)
4 weitere Oberteile aus passenden Unistoffen
1 Jacke (aus einem Basisuni)

Nun ja, wie bereits berichtet, habe ich das Ganze schon einmal versucht. GAR NICHT SO EINFACH, wie es klingt. Denn seinerzeit habe ich zwar altbewährte und gut passende Schnitte genommen, aber irgendwie zu viele verschiedene Stoffe und vor allem passten die Schnitte nicht unbedingt zusammen. So wurde aus der Jacke plötzlich durch falsche Stoffwahl eine Winterjacke und die Blusen passten nur zu einer, aber nicht zu beiden Hosen.

Um sicherzustellen, dass mir das nicht noch einmal passiert, habe ich mir überlegt, dass ich einen Kombischnitt verarbeiten möchte und mich dieses Mal streng an die Regeln halten möchte.

Meine Farben kenne ich seit meiner Farb- und Stilberatung, so dass ich das Ganze in Herbstfarben realisieren möchte. Als Schnitt habe ich Simlpicity 7371 gewählt.

Das Ziel ist 2 Hosen, 2 Röcke, 6 Shirts und 2 Jacken zu nähen. Ich habe also 12 Teile, da ich auf alle Fälle die kurze und die lange Variante der Jacke haben möchte. unter Umständen ergänze ich das Ganze dann tatsächlich noch mit dem Kleid, aber das hängt von meinem Durchhaltevermögen ab.
Dann bin ich shoppen gegangen und habe mich nach Stoffen umgesehen. Doch dazu im nächsten Post mehr.

Well I am still wearing my cast, but I felt like working on a new post, since this one will be a bit longer and I will probably not finish writing it in two languages in one step.
O.K. what´s the plan? A few years ago I read an artikel online that was printed in an australian sewing magazin at the beginning of this century. The author suggested that you sew with a plan, meaning if you sew eleven coordinating pieces of clothing you will end up with a basic wardrobe and have 48 combinations to work with. In my opinion that was an awesome idea (by the way, if you don´t sew clothes, you can simply exchange sewing with shopping - works the same way :-) ). Once you have your basics you can add coordinating pieces easily, she actually had a plan for the combination wardrobe.

O.K. about two years ago I thought "wow what a cool idea" and started a summer SWAP. BIG FAILURE!!!! It really wasn´t all that easy. I used fabrics, that ended up looking weird in combination, I also used patterns, that in the end didn´t really go with each other. I honestly didn´t completly stick to the rules...

To start out the author suggests you choose two basic solids, that go well with each other. Combine with a print. The two basic colors should also appear in the print. Take easy well fitting patterns, to ensure the compatabiltiy of the patterns.

Than sew:

2 pairs of pants ( one each out of the solids)

2 skirts (one solid, one in print)

2 tops (one solid, one in the same print as the skirt)

4 tops out of coordinating solids

1 jacket (solid)

As I said I started this once. The patterns and fabrics didn´t go well with eachother. The shirts just looked good with one of the pants, the jacket ended up being a winter jacket due to the wrong fabric pick and so on. Each piece was well in combination with one or two others, but not with ALL others. So I never ended up with 48 combinations :-(

To make sure this doesn´t happen again I have decided to use a combination pattern and to striktly stick to the rules this time.

I came up with Simplicity 7371 (in Germany), Simplicity 2766 (Simplicity US and UK).

The plan is to sew two pairs of pants, two skirts, 6 shirts, two jackets. I will have - as you can tell - 12 pieces, but I definetly want the short version of the jacket too. I am also planning to sew the dress, but I have to see how I come along...you never know how long this project will keep my interest .-)
Since I know my colors well I am going to finish this up in fall colors.
Of course the first step now was to go fabric shopping. But more on that next time... so long

Gips/ Cast

Leider habe ich es nicht geschafft, meine Schmerzen in der rechten Hand, mit denen ich schon seit Wochen rumhantiere in den Griff zu kriegen und so habe ich seit heute einen Gips an meinem rechten Arm. Und somit werdet ihr in naher Zukunft von mir eher wenig zu lesen und sehen bekommen. Und bitte nicht böse ein, wenn ich im Moment nicht bei euch kommentiere, aber mit links schreiben nervt grad völlig.
Dabei habe ich so große Pläne...also drückt die Daumen, dass das Ding nicht allzu lange dran bleibt.

Unfortunately I didn´t get a grip on the pain I kept having in my right arm. Therfore I finally went to see a doctor today and what I really was afraid of and the main reason I hahdn`t seen a doctor so far happened: they put a cast on my arm!!!!Therefore you will not see or hear a lot of me in the near future. Please forgive if I don`t comment on your blogs, but it is really nervracking to type with my left hand only.

But I promise I have BIG plans....so keep your fingers crossed,that this thing won´t stay on for too long!!!

Wild Life Top Fertig/ Finished

Geschafft - kurz vor Ende des Wochenendes habe ich das Top noch fertig bekommen. Wenn ich meine Bügelwäsche erledigt habe, mache ich mich an das Zusammensetzen und Heften des Sandwiches. Und dann wird wieder von Hand gequiltet. Ich weiß nur noch nicht genau wie und was. Jemand ne Idee? Und dran denken es wird für einen 11-jährigen Jungen.

Whoohooo..right before the end of my long weekend I finished the wild life top. And I must say I like it :-)

Now I have to finish my loads of ironing waiting in the basement and in case I should get finished in time I will start layering the sandwich. And than it is time for some more handquilting. Only I don´t yet know how I am going to quilt this baby. Any ideas? Keep in mnd it is going to be for an eleven year old boy.

Und hier könnt ihr noch den Rückseitenstoff sehen. Den hat Töchterchen ausgesucht und ich finde er passt sehr gut.

Sonntagspost/ Sunday Update

Sonntag und immer noch ein freier Tag. Das ist fast zu schön, um wahr zu sein. Und dann noch dieses tolle Wetter. Einfach genial.
Sunday...and still one more day off..I can hardly believe it. And with the wheather being awesome as it is, it is even better.

Gestern Abend nutzen wir den lauen Abend, um Stockbrot zu machen. Es war sooo lustig. Irgendwie ist es gefühlte hundert Jahre her, dass wir das das letzte Mal gemacht hatten und es war wirklich lecker.

Last night we used the warm temperatures to start a fire and make "Stockbrot". What you do is, make the bread dough, wrap it around a stick and bake it above the fire. We used do to that when the kids were younger and last night it felt like we had missed out on something for ages, because we really had a blast.

Sogar ein kleiner Igel kam uns mitten in der Nacht noch besuchen.
Even a hedgehog came to visit in the middle of the night.

Und genäht habe ich auch, so dass das Quilt für meinen Neffen Form annimmt. Leider habe ich nicht daran gedacht, dass ich vielleicht auch Stoff für die Ränder bräuchte und habe diesen nicht mitbestellt. Aber zum Glück haben wir heute verkaufsoffenen Sonntag und so werde ich gleich nochmal zum PW Laden tigern und gucken, ob ich etwas passendes finden kann.

And I got some sewing done. The quilt for my nephew is put together except for the borders. Unfortunately I forgot to order border fabric, but since the stores are open here this afternoon I am going to hop to the fabric store and see if they have anything that matches.

Und dann ist ja heute Abend noch Oper. La Bohéme....Ich freue mich schon riesig drauf, obwohl man in Kassel immer mit allem rechnen muss und die Inszenierungen manches Mal seeeeehr gewöhnungsbedürftig sind.
And than we are off to the opera tonight to see La Bohème. I am fairly ecxited because the Opera in Kassel is known to be very modern and sometimes what they show is just plain aweful :-).

Heute spiele ich mal wieder bei Shays FTF mit. Freitags heißt es ja bekanntlich die Woche oder das Wochenende celebrieren und das bedeutet auch sich zu überlegen, was einem grade mal besonders gut gefällt. Mein FTF für heute lautet:

Ja, ihr lest richtig. Da ich die letzten drei Wochen quasi durchgearbeitet habe, habe ich mir heute freigenommen und mit dem Feiertag am Montag kriege ich ein richtig, langes Wochenende. Heute habe ich es mit einem schönen Frisuerbesuch gestartet und habe mich mal verwöhnen lassen. Gleich geht es zu Schweigereltern und da wird erst einmal Schiegermamas Geburtstag gefeiert. So richtig schön mit lecker Torte und Abends Grillen (klar oder bei dem Wetter).

Dannach werden ich mich noch ins Mitternachtsshopping nach Kassel stürzen, denn auch mein Stoffhaus hat länger geöffnet.

Morgen heißt es einkaufen und ein wenig nähen, Sonntag steht dann im Zeichen der Oper - auch da freue ich mich schon sehr drauf.

Und Montag wird nochmal genäht. Klingt doch nach einem Plan.

4 DAYS OFF!!!!

I cannot tell you how excited I am. After having worked through for basically 3 weeks I took today off and with Monday beeing a holiday in Germany I get to relax for 4 full days.

And I am planning to enjoy!!! I started the day off today, with a nice visit to my hairdresser and got myself well pampered. In a little while we will head over to my inlaws house since it is my mother-in-law´s birthday today. We will get treated to some awesome cake and a nice barbeque in the evening.

Afterwards I will take the girls shopping, since it is midnight shopping in the city (hahaha), and that is always a nice event, especially since the fabric store is also on entended opening hours.

By the way - the wheather is awesome - 26°C and bright sunshine - loving it :-)

Tomorrow is reserved for some groceries shopping and most likely a lot of sewing. Sunday we will go to the opera and Monday will be pamper-yourself-day. Sounds like a plan doesn´t it?

So und ganz faul war ich die letzten Tage auch nicht, sondern ich habe an "Wild Life" , dem Quilt für meinen Neffen, weiter genäht.

I wasn´t totally lazy this week. I went ahead sewing my nephews quilt "Wild Life".

Der Quilt für meine Nichte hat jetzt auch einen Namen und wird ganz einfach "sweet dreams" heißen.

The quilt with no name now also has a name: "Sweet Dreams". Plain and simple. And since Thea demanded to see the back of it - here you go :-)

Fertig!! / A Finish!!!

Nachdem ich irgendwie dreimal das Binding verlängern mußte, habe ich es jetzt endlich geschafft das Binding dann auch von hinten von Hand anzunähen. Somit ist die erste von drei Kinderdecken, die ich zu Weihnachten verschenken möchte fertig und ein uralt UFO beseitigt. Ich bin im Übrigen total zufrieden mit der Decke.
Decke maschinengenäht und hangequiltet.

After having had to adjust the binding three times, cause it was too short, I now finally got to handsew it to the back. I abolutely love this quilt.
So therefore one out of three quilts that I plan to give away for x-mas is finished, and a longlasting UFO is off my list.
The quilt is machine sewn and handquilted.

Nur schnell ein Lebenszeichen / just a short Hello

Nachdem der herbst hier massiv Einzug gehalten hat und wir jeden Morgen mit dichtem Nebel aufwachen, muss ich erst einmal immer allen Mut zusammen nehmen, um aufzustehen. Zum Glück wird es im Laufe des Tages meist sonnig und schön.
Auch dieses Wochenende war ich nicht zu Hause und somit ist nicht viel nähtechnisches passiert. Ich kann jedoch berichten, dass das Binding an dem Quilt ohne Namen dran ist und ich nur noch die Rückseite von Hand annähen muss.
Sollte jemand Ideen für einen tollen Namen haben - nur her damit.
Ich wünsch euch allen einen guten Start in die Woche und danke Euch, dass ihr noch vorbeikommt obwohl ich nicht mehr sooft poste! :-)

Fall is definetly here and even if I like that time of year with the leaves changing color, chestnuts falling and so on I dread to get up every morning with dense fog. I doesn´t help my motivation.
Anyways - having been out of town for work for yet another weekend I didn´t get a lot of sewing done. But I finally finished machine sewing the front of the binding onto the quilt that doesn´t have a name yet (any ideas anyone). I only have to handsew it to the back...and make a label which I am planning to get done by the end of the week. So stay tuned :-)

Auch wenn ich im Moment ziemlich viel arbeite, versuche ich jeden Tag ein kleines bischen zu handarbeiten und so habe ich den Quilt für meine Nichte mittlerweile fertig gequiltet. Das Binding ist zur Hälfte zugeschnitten und gebügelt und wartet darauf angenäht zu werden.
Zudem habe ich noch zwei weitere Schals( lila und schwarz/weiß) gestrickt und eine Babyhose aus kuschelweichem Nicky genäht.

Gestern habe ich dann noch 6x6 Streifen für das Quilt meines Neffen zusammengenäht. Also ... bald kommt das nächste Top.

Even though I work like a mad woman lately, I still try to get a little bit of craft time in every day. I finished two more scarfs (violett and black/white), finished handquilting the red/blue/no name quilt, cut and ironed half of the binding, sewed a quick pair of baby pants and sewed together 6x6 strips for my nephews quilt. So there will be a new quilt top fairly soon.

Boah, habt ihr im Moment auch so Probleme mit Blogger? Ic brauche meist vier bis fünf Anläufe, um irgendwo einen Kommentar abgeben zu dürfen, manchmal darf ich meinen eigenen Post nicht mal hochladen, da es meinen Account angeblich nicht gibt usw. Zum Kotz...ist das!!!

Blogger is driving me up the wall. I try to comment and sometimes I need to sign in with my account three or four times , cause Blogger simply decides my account isn´t available. What is going on???
I don´t really have a lot of time to waste and if I need ten minutes for every comment I simply don´t feel like doing it anymore!!! Sorry!!!

Ein bischen dies, ein bischen das/ A little bit of this a little bit of that

Nun endlich kam ich am heutigen Sonntag dazu, an meiner Jacke weiterzunähen. Ich habe das Futter fertig genäht und dann die Teile rechts auf rechts zusammengesteckt, genäht, Nahtzugaben zurückgeschnitten und dann von Hand geheftet bevor ich die Jacke rund herum einmal knapp abgesteppt habe. Eigentlich war der Schnitt ja für offenkantig Verarbeitung von Walkstoffen gedacht.
Ich bin im Nachhinein froh, dass ich mir die Arbeit gemacht habe, denn nun sieht die Jacke ordentlich aus und gefällt mir richtig gut. Mit meiner grünen Leinenhose (die ich mir in London gegönnt hatte) zusammen, finde ich läßt sich das Outfit richtig gut sehen und ich habe jetzt zwei schöne Kombinationen für die beiden Sitzungen die ich am nächsten Wochenende leiten soll. Da kann ja fast nix mehr schief gehen, obwohl ich schon richtig Panik schiebe. :-)

Today I finally got to sew a little and I was very fortunate to finish the jacket I started working on last weekend. The pattern I had, called for some wool fabric, that doesn´t need any lining or any sergeing of seams. But I absolutly wanted to have that pattern made out of linen and with a striped lining. Well - said and done :-)
I went ahead and made the linen jacket, than the lining. Put the pieces right sides together and sewed them together. Turned everything inside out and had to baste the jacket all the way around by hand before I could iron and topstitch it. But in the end it was well worth the effort and I really, really like the jacket.
Combined with my greenish slacks (the ones I bought in London) I think I have a very nice looking outfit. And with the white pants and new shirt I now have two outfits for the upcoming weekend. I have to work and have to host two conferences, one with twenty participants. Scares me to death, but at least now I have clothes I feel good in.

Auf der quiltigen Seite des Lebens arbeite ich immer noch an meinen Babyblocks. I glaube ich mache noch ein paar mehr und dann bekommt das Quilt einen gaaaaaaanz breiten Rand. Ich kann so langsam keine blauen Baby Blocks mehr sehen :-(

On the quiltside of life I have been working on my baby blocks. I think I need to make a few more and I will than put a WIDE border around everything. I cannot stand blue baby blocks anymore!!!

Und dann arbeite ich immer noch an dem namenlosen Quilt für meine Nichte. Aber davon demnächst mehr.

I am also still working on the no name star quilt for my niece. More on that soon.

Nachdem ich gestern die Bilder von mir in meinem Outfit Bluse/Rock gesehen habe, wurde ich das Gefühl nicht los, dass das ein wenig ...wie soll ich sagen....bieder, omahaft oder so aussah. Also habe ich heute morgen eine kleine Modenschau veranstaltet (ich mußte ja UNBEDINGT heute die neue Bluse anziehen) und so gefällt sie mir gleich viiiel besser.
Was meint Ihr?

After having looked at the pictures from yesterday for a while I felt a little strange about the outfit...I don´t know how to put it in words, but I somehow felt it made me look more like my Mom or my Grandma - kinda too old - well so this morning right after getting up I did a little fashion show (at 6 in the morning, ´cause I absolutely had to wear the new garment today) and I feel a lot better now. I think this looks even nicer, don´t you??

..scheint meine Nähkreativität mal wieder ein bischen zurückzukommen. Und so habe ich mich gestern und heute überwiegend in meinem Keller aufgehalten und genäht. neue Klamotten müssen her, da ich die alten nicht mehr sehen kann und mich wie dieWurst in der Pelle drin fühle. Als erstes sollte eine Hose her - die ist aber nix geworden.
Als nächstes habe ich mich dann an einer Bluse versucht und siehe da - ich kann noch nähen. Seufz.
Dann wollte ich einen braunen Rock passend zur Bluse nähen und nachdem ich den Schnitt schon aufgesteckt hatte, fiel mir ein, dass ich so einen Rock doch irgendwo haben mußte. Und siehe da - nur der RV war defekt. Also neuer RV und neues Outfit! Freu!

Dann habe ich gleich noch eine Jacke mit Futter für den Herbst zugeschnitten und auch schon angefangen zu nähen.

Sorry, dass ich mich in letzter Zeit auf euren Blogs nicht so oft hab blicken lassen. Ich habe die meisten Sachen durchaus gelesen, aber hatte einfach keine Muse zum antworten. Es war einfach zu viel los hier. Bitte nicht böse sein. Ich verspreche Besserung.

...my sewing spirits seem to be coming back. And hence I spent most of today and yesterday in my basement. I absolutely need new clothes. For one I cannot see the old ones anymore and than I feel like a sausage in most of the old stuff..uhuuuuuuuuuu..too tight :-((
At first I was hoping to make some pants, but that didn´t work out and so I started a blouse instead. And - surprise, surprise - I can still do it.
I meant to sew amatching skirt after that and had already pinned the pattern pieces to the fabric when it hit me. I have a brown skirt somewhere - and yes, there it was lying around with a broken zipper. Well i fixed the zipper and had a new outfit in seconds. Sometimes small things make a big difference .-)

I am really happy with the way the blouse turned out and cut out the pieces for a lined jacket right away.
So there is hopefully more to come soon.

I am very sorry I haven´t been around in blogland much. I read most of the posts, but I just haven´t felt like commenting - too much was going on over here. I promise to be better in the future.

FTF - neues Garn / new yarn

Und wieder mal ist eine Woche zu Ende. Meine neueste Errungenschaft und mein Favourit für diese Woche ist das neue Schalgarn von Lana Grossa.
Erst sieht es wie ein Bändchengarn aus und dann muss es aufgefächert werden, wird zum Netz und schließlich wird da dann ein lustiger Schal draus. Anfangs gewöhnungsbedürftig zu Stricken, werde ich sicher noch öfter damit arbeiten.

My fav of the week is the new yarn I found strolling through town on Saturday. This yarn looks like plain stuff until you start unfolding it. Than it turns out to be a net like strukture you use to make scarfs. It was a little bit weird in the beginning to knit with, but I got used to it after a while and will definetly keep on using it.

Eine Freundin aus USA hat mir auf facebook die Lösung eines meiner größten Probleme angeboten....wow, wenn Shari recht hat, dann sollte sie den Nobel Preis dafür gewinnen :-)

Sie meinte, sie habe gerade herausgefunden, warum sie übergewichtig sei.
Auf dem Haarshampoo, dass jeden Tag auch an ihrem Körper runterläuft, steht "für mehr Fülle und Volumen". Ab heute wolle sie Geschirrspülmittel zum Duschen verwenden - denn da steht drauf: "Löst selbst hartnäckiges Fett".
Na, wenn das nicht die Lösung ist!!

Just figured out why I'm overweight! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my body says "for extra volume and body". I'm going to start using dishwashing liquid. It says "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."

I believe she deserves the nobel price if that works...:-)

Ich bin total geschockt was gerade in London (und anderen Städten in Großbritannien) abgeht. Nicht zu letzt, weil meine Stieftochter dort zur Zeit lebt.
Ich hoffe und bete, dass die Ausschreitung bald aufhören und es allen, die wir dort kennen, gut geht.

I am shocked about the riots in London (and other parts of Great Britain). I pray and hope things will be back to normal in no time and everyone we know is doing o.k.

..naja nicht ganz. Denn ich hatte heute morgen Klinikbereitschaft und konnte somit nicht den ganzen Tag rum faulenzen. Aber nichts desto trotz gibt es was zu berichten und sogar ein oder zwei Bildchen.
...well not quite so..I had to work this morning and therefore couldn´t stay in my PJs all day long. But I still managed to get something done.

Ich habe gestern den Quilt für Pauline (der noch einen Namen braucht - Vorschläge nehme ich gerne entgegen) geheftet. Und das habe ich zum ersten Mal NICHT auf dem Fussboden, sondern an meinem Zuschneidetisch gemacht. Und es hat super geklappt. Zwei Stunden später war der Quilt geheftet und ich hatte KEINE Rückenschmerzen.
Yesterday I basted the quilt for my nice Pauline (that quilt still needs a name...suggestions are welcome). For the first time I didn´t tape the fabric to the floor, but put it up on my cutting table and layered and basted it there. Wow - two hours later I had a basted quilt and NO backaches...isn´t that just wonderful!

Schön ist, dass mir der Quilt jetzt schon /noch gefällt und ich deswegen sehr motiviert bin ihn zu Quilten. Und das habe ich heute nachmittag getan und werde ich auch heute Abend noch weiter machen.

LONDON

Wie einige von Euch schon geahnt haben, war ich in London. Von Mittwoch bis Freitag letzter Wochen waren mein Mann, meine Tochter und ich in London,um meine Stieftochter zu besuchen, die dort ein dreimonatiges Praktikum macht. Und nachdem wir erst einmal da waren (der Hinflug hatte 2 Stunden Verspätung) war es einfach grandios.

As some of you know or ecpected, I got to spent a few days in London. My husband, my daughter an I went to London from Wednesday to Sunday to visit my stepdaughter who is there on an internship for three months. And once we finally got there (the flight to London was delayed for two hours) it was awesome.

Aber zuerst einmal die schlechten Dinge. Also als erstes finde ich die sollten mal Englisch lernen...oh Mann ich habe kaum was verstanden und ich dachte immer ich kann mich auf Englisch gut verständigen, aber dieses Kauderwelsch war die reinste Katastrophe. Naja und dann waren da viel zu viele Menschen. Ein Gedränge ohne Gleichen - von wegen die Londoner warten immer brav in ihrer Reihe - hahaha.

Naja und das Schlimmste für mich war, dass der Quilt- und Patchworkladen in London Tikki

natürlich genau in dieser Zeit seine Sommerferien machen mußte...so ein Mist.

Aber Tochterkind und ich haben dann unser Geld auch anderweitig unter die Leute gebracht.

Und dann ist da das Problem, dass man für einen einstündigen Flug gefühlte tausend Stunden am Flughafen verbringt. Zwei Stunden vorher da sein, einchecken, warten, dann 30 (!!!) Minuten nach der boarding Zeit erfahren, dass der Fleiger zwei Stunden Verspätung hat...grrr....und auf dem Rückflug war die Maschine auch eineinhalb Stunden zu spät - das nervt!

Well first of all I am going to tell you about the bad things. I honestly believe that the people in London should learn to speak English. Man, I always thought my English was good enough to get along, but can anyone be so wrong?? Obviously, since I basically didn´t understand them and say pretended not to understand me...and than there were way too many people. Gee, you were sometimes hardly able to switch sides so you could go into a store.

And of course the worst part about London was that Tikki - the Quilt store in London - was on summer vacation exactly that one week. Is that fair?? O.K. I admit kiddo and I got rid of our savings anyways, but it was frustrating.

And than there is the fact that you have to spent a million hours at the airport for a one-hour-flight. You have to be at the airport two hours in advance, wait in line, check in, go to your gate, hang around, than 30 (!!!) minutes after the original boarding time we finally were told that the plane was two hours late....grrr...and the flight back was also one and a half hours late. That sucks and was getting massively on my nerves.

O.K. aber ansonsten war es ein traumhafter Trip...und das seht ihr nun an einer Reihe Bilder . Achtung!!!

Und jetzt noch die Entschuldigung für meine Faulheit. Wir waren von Mittwoch bis Sonntag verreist, Montag habe ich zehn Stunden gearbeitet und danach Wäscheberge abgearbeitet und heute habe ich hoffentlich neben Wäsche waschen, Hausputz und bügeln noch Zeit für ein paar Nähte.

And here is my excuse: We were out of town from Wednesday til Sunday and Monday I had to work for ten hours straight and afterwards I had to do laundry. Today I will hopefully end up with at least 15 minutes of sewing in between laundry and house cleaning.

15 minutes update

Heute kann ich es sehr kurz machen...ich habe jede freie Minute an dem Safari Quilt gearbeitet und heute noch das Label gedruckt und draufgenäht. Somit habe ich mehr als 15 Minuten täglich für mein Hobby aufgebracht, außer Montag da war ich faul.
Jetzt muss ich mal sehen, wie ich weitermache.
Und da zu einem richtigen Post auch ein Bild gehört hier Melody für alle ihre Fans :-)
Und hier seht ihr was die anderen geschafft haben.

Today it`ll just be a short post. I spent every spare minute on my SAFARI quilt which I finished the the day before yesterday. Monday I didn´t do anything and today I printed the label and whipstitched it to the back of the quilt. Therefore I spent more than 15 minutes daily (except Monday) on quilting.
Now I have to make up my mind what I´ll do next.
And since it´s not a good post without a picture I´ll show you my baby...

Hier ist es endlich - fertig bis auf das Label!
Maschinengenäht und handgequiltet innerhalb der letzten zwei Jahre.
zwei Jelly Rolls Batik Stoffe, Rückseite und Schrägband extra.
Ich habe Kreise in vier verschiedenen Farben reingequiltet.

Here it is - if there was a medal for slow quilting I´d win it. This quilt took me two years to quilt...unbelievable but true.
Well two jelly rolls, some orange fabric for the backing and one yard of yellow for the bias binding. Machine sewn and handquilted by me. I used four different colors of quilting thread...first time I tried that but I like it a lot.

Friday Night Sew in mit Heidi /FNSI with Heidi

Es war mal wieder soweit. Heidi hat alle eingeladen mit ihr virtuell am Freitagabend zu nähen. Und wie ihr ja wißt, hatte ich vor mir etwas zum Anziehen für die Hochzeit zu nähen. Aber - genau das große ABER - ich gedenke nicht mich tot zu frieren und habe deswegen beschlossen etwas bereits in meinem Schrank hängendes zu nehmen und den Leinen für später aufzusparen, obwohl die Hose sogar schon zugeschnitten ist.

It was time again to virtually meet up with Heidi on a Friday night and sew. As you all know I was planning to sew an outfit to wear for the wedding we are supposed to attend tomorrow. But after having seen the weather forecast, I decided that it wouldn´t do me any good to freeze to death and therefore I changed my mind. I will wear some fall/winter clothes already in my closet since we are supposed to have a high of 16° (!!!!) C (in JULY!!!).

Statt dessen habe ich mich an meine Quilts gemacht.
Als erstes habe ich meinen Batikquilt, der ab sofort den Namen "Safari" trägt, fertig gequiltet. Dann habe ich mich dran gemacht und gefühlte 100m Schrägband geschnitten, gebügelt und an den begradigten Quilt genäht.

Well instead I decided to work on my quilts.
And man did I get a lot done. At first I finished quilting my batic quilt which as of now will be the "Safari" quilt. Than I cut a felt 100 yds of bias binding, ironed it and sew it to the quilt.

Danach habe ich die Stoffe für den Quilt meines Neffen zugeschnitten und die ersten Streifen auch gleich aneinander genäht und wieder auseinander geschnitten. So sind auch hier schon die ersten 7 Blöcke entstanden.

Next I cut up the fabric for my nephew´s quilt, sew it together and cut it apart again to gain the first seven blocks for that quilt.

Den Rest der Zeit habe ich dann mit Stricken verbracht und habe auch noch den ersten Ärmel von meiner Jacke fertig bekommen. Ich muss sagen, heute bin ich richtig stolz auf mich (wurde ja auch mal Zeit, nachdem ich die letzten Tage ziemlich faul war).

The rest of the day I spent knitting and I got to finish the first sleeve of my cardigan. I am really proud of all the things I accomplished today, especially cause I only bumped around the rest of the week.

Well my favourite of the day is

SHAY!!!!!

I know that is weird, but honestly I have never met such a fun, helpful, interesting person in my internet life before. When I started blogging a while ago I thought it would be nice to share my quilting and sewing and maybe even a bit of my life with the outside world - better with the rest of Germany. Soon I realized that there are far too many english speaking bloggers out there and I decided to write my posts in two languages. Soon after that I got to meet Shay. I was always worried whether my english was good enough, or if anybody was even interested in me writing in two languages. That´s when I met Shay.
She told and thaught me a lot about life in Australia, about quilting there, I learned what OP-shopping is and I found out that there is a vast amount of food in Australia that I learned to love while living in the US.
We started to send emails back and forth, called each other on Skype- where the connection is usually so bad that I actually can feel/hear the ocean between us.
Shay has helped me through a real hard time with my son, comforting me and giving me strenghth to go on.
And she always, always makes me laugh. Each and every post I read is funny yet thoughtful.
Girl you should write books!!!
Thanks for being a wonderful friend, even if you are half a world away. And one day - I know it - I will get to meet you in real life!!

To all of you out there: This doesn´t mean that I don´t care about you too....I´ve gotten to be really fond of all the sweet comments and helpful tipps I get from each and every one out there. And i love reading all your blog posts everyday! Thanks to you too!!

15 min a day / Jeden Tag ein bischen mehr...

So nachdem ich die letzte Woche wieder angefangen habe zu arbeiten, habe ich dennoch versucht wenigstens ein bischen Zeit täglich für mein Hobby abzuzwacken. Ich habe immer ein bischen gequiltet und dann etwas gestrickt. Mittlerweile sind 65 von 70 Blöcken fertig und das Rückenteil, beide Vorderteile und fast ein Ärmel gestrickt. Mühsam ernährt sich das Eichhörnchen.
Und die neuen Projekte liegen schon startbereit.
Brauner Leinen und ein Batist für ein Hochzeitsgast-Outfit (brauche ich am Samstag :-) ), sowie Pw Stoffe für ein Quilt für meinen Neffen.
Ihr seht ich bin dabei, auch wenn ich nicht mehr so viel blogge. Irgendwie weiß ich z.Z. nicht so recht was und worüber ich schreiben soll.
Bis demnächst...und schaut mal hier vorbei, dann könnt ihr sehen was andere Leute mit 15 Minuten täglich schaffen.

Since I started work again last week I thought I wasn´t gonna be able to do anything, but I still managed to squeeze at least fifteen minutes a day out for me-time. I quilted on my batic quilt (65/70 finished) or knitted on my jumper/cardigan thing. You see, even if I don´t show up here all that often I am still trying to work a little. It just seems, I don´t really know what to write about lately.

New projects are already waiting. Fabric for a quilt for my 11-year-old nephew and brown linnen and cream cotton fabric for an outfit for myself which I am planning to wear to a wedding on Saturday :-)

It will not get boring!

Nachdem ich morgen wieder zur Arbeit muss und meine zwei Wochen Urlaub nun leider endgültig vorbei sind, habe ich den heutigen Tag zum Nichtstun genutzt. Sprich wir haben uns einen richtig chilligen Tag gemacht. Morgens schön gemütlich auf der Terrasse gefrühstückt, dann an meinem Batikquilt weiter gequiltet ( 50 von 70 Blöcken fertig - ich bin und bleibe eine Schneckenquilterin), zum Mittagessen Eis gegessen - lecker! - danach beim Formel eins gucken gestrickt und zum Abendessen Reste von unserer Grillfete von gestern Abend gegessen.
So liebe ich das Leben!!!

2. Vorderteil/2nd front piece

Since today is the last day of my yearly two week vacation I decided it will be an "I-do-nothing-Day". We got up and had breakfast on the patio. Afterwards I finished a few more blocks on my batic quilt (50 out of 70 finished - I am such a slow poke when it comes to quilting ), we had ice cream for lunch - yummy - and afterwards I decided to knit on my sweater.
For dinner we ate leftovers from yesterdays BBQ. That´s the way I love my life!!

FTF - Tanz auf dem Vulkan /Dance on the volcano

...oder eine Woche auf La Palma. Ja ihr lest richtig, mein heutiger FTF Post wird über unsere Reise nach La Palma sein. Die Insel hat mich völlig in ihren Bann gezogen und ich würde am liebsten gleich wieder zurück fliegen.

..or one week on La Palma /Canary Islands. Yes you are reading right, we just returned from a one week trip to a most beautiful island. I wouldn´t mind flying back right now.

Wir hatten ein tolles Hotel mit neun verschiedenen Pools, dass nur zu ungefähr 1/3 ausgebucht war...
We had a beautiful hotel with nine different pools, which only had about 1/3 of the capacity booked...

es gab gesundes Essen...
there was healthy food...

und weniger gesundes...
and not so healthy food..

wir waren wandern...bei 30° im Schatten (und ja wir haben eine kleine Meise :-) )
we did a lot of hiking (I know - we are crazy to do so at 30°C)

wir lagen am Pool..
we relaxed by the pool...

wir haben Vulkane gesehen..
we saw volcanos..

kleine Städte...
small villages...

Sonnenuntergänge am Meer...
sunsets by the ocean...

Wolken die über die Berge schwappen...
clouds floating over the mountains...

und wir haben die wunderbare Natur La Palmas bewundert.
and we enjoyed the beautiful nature of that fabulous island.

Und wie haben sogar Patchwork aus Kieselsteinen gesehen...
and we even saw patchwork made out of pebbles..

Und einer Sache bin ich mir völlig sicher: Als der liebe Gott fertig war, die Erde zu erschaffen hatte er noch jede Menge Kurven übrig. Die hat er nach La Palma gebracht und hat den Palmeros gesagt:" Baut eine Strasse um die Insel und wenn ihr das schafft schenke ich euch ein paar Geraden, damit ihr noch ne Querverbindung bauen könnt." Die Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit, die man auf der Insel fahren kann sind ungefähr 30-35 Stundenkilometer. Je nachdem, wo man gerade ist, kann man für 15 km auch schon mal ne Stunde brauchen.
Und was ich noch nicht ganz so schön fand: Irgendwie fangen alle Wandertouren oben an und man steigt erst einmal ins Tal ab, um dann am Ende, wenn man müde und kaputt ist, wieder hochzuklettern. Wir sprechen immerhin von der steilsten Insel - höchster Punkt auf über 2400 Metern.
Ansonsten war die Insel eine Wucht - nur etwas über 40 km lang und etwas mehr als 20 km breit gab es sooo viel zu bewundern, dass wir in einer Woche knapp 700 Bilder gemacht haben.
Aber ich habe auch 2 Bücher gelesen, etwas gestrickt und ein bischen gelieselt.

Who was I fooling thinking I would spend seven days at the pool sleeping and relaxing ?
But the island was just too pretty not to hike, enjoy and have fun. One thing I am sure of is that God must not have liked those Palmeros. Otherwise he probably would have helped them built some straight streets. All they have is one sharp turn after the other, making sure that it is impossible to drive faster than an average of 30-35 km/h. Sometimes you´d need up to an hour for a mere 15 km. That explains why we were on the go all the time even if the island is only about 20 km wide and 40 km long. They have the steepest mountains (highest point 2400m) and the most beautiful scenery.
There is only one not so nice thing: All hiking trails start on the top, making you go down into the valley and climb back up after you´re totally exhausted already. But - I survived.
I even read two books, knitted a little and finished about 4 Baby Blocks.

Was passt hier nicht? Ich habe meine Redwork Blöcke mit Rändern versehen, aber wenn ich sie jetzt so an der Wand sehe, passt es irgendwie nicht...irgendwas ist nicht stimmig. Nur was?Irgendwer ne Idee?

I put borders around my redwork blocks and I love each single one, but now that I have them hanging on my design wall there is something wrong with them..I just don´t know what?? Any ideas anyone??

Glücksprinzip oder pay it forward

Vor einiger Zeit hat Marit von quilt it zu einer Aktion aufgerufen, die das Glücksprinzip heißt. Und das Ganze funktioniert so:
Du suchst drei Leute aus, denen Du ein handgearbeitetes Geschenk übersendest. Dazu hast du dann 365 Tage Zeit. Diese wiederum verpflichten sich, innerhalb von 365 Tagen auch an drei Leute ein Geschenk zu schicken.
Also schenkt man jemandem Etwas ohne selber etwas zurück zu bekommen. Ein Schenken, um der Freude wegen.
Und das fand ich so toll, dass ich mich bei ihr gemeldet habe.
Als ich heute von meinem Kongress zurückkam, lag ein Brief aus Norwegen hier und ein total schöner MUG RUG (löl...jaja die gibt es auch in Norwegen).

Wow, a while ago Marit over at quilt it had asked for people who wanted to play pay it forward with her. The idea is to send a handmade gift to a person within 365 days. That person also commits herself to send a gift within 365 days.
So when I got home from the conference tonight an envelope from Norway was sitting on my counter. Marit had quilted a beautiful Mug Rug (seems they have those everywhere in the quilting world) for me.

Fast schon Urlaub../ Almost vacation time

Nachdem meine Tochter am Freitag ihren letzten Schultag hatte, bekommen mein Mann und mein Sohn heute Urlaub. Ich habe gestern den letzten Tag in der Praxis gearbeitet und fahre heute noch für vier Tage auf den Logopädie Kongress nach Karlsruhe, um danach zwei volle Wochen Urlaub zu genießen. Und da ich im Moment so gar keine Lust auf Nähen habe, habe ich mir wenigstens "quiltige" Literatur besorgt.
Vermutlich wird es hier ein wenig ruhiger werden in den nächsten Wochen, da ich mich total überarbeitet fühle und mal richtig abschalten möchte. Ich wünsche euch einen schönen Sommeranfang und werde sicherlich hier und da ein wenig mitlesen.
Bis dann....
Annika had her last day of school on Friday and my son and my husband have their last days at work today. I worked the last day in my office yesterday and will head for the annual speach therapist meeting today and for the next four days. After that I am off for two weeks....and guess what - I cannot wait!!!
I feel totally overworked and stressed, my sewing mojo is gone....I don´t feel like sewing or quilting at all and therefore decided it is time for some relaxation and some good literature. And since I didn´t want to stay away from quilting all together I decided to get some Elm Creek Quilt Novels. That should keep me busy for a while.
Don´t be disappointed if I am not writing here for a while but I feel as though I really need some time off and for myself and my husband.
So long ( I am sure I will be reading a lot of new posts though)...

Musikabend, Schulabschluss usw/Musical evening, graduation and more

Wir hatten aufregende Tage. Nachdem ich meine Nichten wieder Richtung Heimat auf den Weg gebracht habe, mußte ich mein Haus auf Vordermann bringen und am nächsten Tag kam schon meine Mutter zu Besuch.
Am Donnerstag dann hatte meine Tochter Annika ihren letzten Musikabend an ihrer Schule. Sie sang dort sechs Jahre im Musical Chor. Und Freitag war dann Verabschiedung und Zeugnisübergabe. Wir durften an einer sehr feierlichen und schönen Veranstaltung für Haupt- und Realschulabgänger, sowie Abiturienten teilnehmen. Der Musicalchor sang noch einmal und das Schulorchester untermalte das Ganze.
Nun ist die "Kleine" auch mit dem ersten Schulabschnitt fertig. Schon ein komisches Gefühl, aber zum Glück hat sie ihre Leistungen im letzten Jahr noch einmal so deutlich verbessern können, dass sie die Vorraussetzungen für die Fachoberschule gut geschafft hat und jetzt ihr Fachabitur machen kann.

We had some exciting days here. After having taken my nieces home, I had to clean my house, cause my Mom arrived the next day. On Thursday than my daughter had her last concert with the school´s musical choir and the day after she had her graduation. It was a very nice celebration with the school orchestra and choir singing and everyone spending a nice day together. It is a strange feeling to have her leave the school - and knowing I will not be seeing a lot of the people there again.
But her grades were fairly good and so she is eligable to go to "Fachoberschule" which is something like a technical school or junior college..well what ever..she will go on to school, which is good.

Wie ich in meinem gestrigen Post schon schrieb haben wir nicht nur genäht.
As I already wrote in yesterdays post we didn´t only sew.

Wir waren auch Erdbeeren pflücken im Erdbeerfeld ...
We also went to the strawberryfields to pick some strawberries...

...und haben Erdbeerkuchen gemacht - und gegessen.
..and we made strawberry cake - and ate it.

Wir waren am Edersee auf dem Wasserspielplatz ...
We went to the water playground at Edersee ( a beautiful lake near by)...

...und einem weiteren Spielplatz.
...and to another playground.

Melody war natürlich auch dabei und durfte auch mal ins Wasser, was die Kinder besonders freute.
Of course Melody came along and was allowed to go for a swim which very much amused the girls.

Und heute haben sie dann an meiner alten Singer ihre ersten Versuche allein an der Nähmaschine gemacht. Sie wollten gerne Topflappen nähen...
And today they started their first attempts alone on my old Singer sewing machine. They asked me to make pot holders...

und die Ergebnisse können sich durchaus sehen lassen. Natürlich brauchten sie noch reichlich Hilfe - aber ich bin stolz auf die beiden...
...and I have to say, that the results were fairly good. I mean, of course they still needed a bunch of help - but I am proud of "my" girls.

...und damit sie es gleich richtig lernen wurde natürlich auch fleißig gebügelt. In order for them to learn it right from the start, they also had to press a lot.

Nachmittags waren wir dann noch zum Ponyreiten und dann sind die zwei auch ziemlich zeitig und hoch zufrieden ins Bett gefallen.
In the afternoon we went horseback riding and after that the two of them fell a sleep very fast and very happy.

Und morgen geht es leider schon wieder nach Hause - schade, dass die Zeit immer so schnell vergeht, aber ich bin mir sicher, dass sie nicht das letzte Mal bei uns waren.
And tomorrow I unfortunately will have to take them back home. It so sad time flies when your having fun.

Pyjama Party Sunday

Sonntags linke ich mich gerne rüber zu Marg und ihrem Pyjama Party Sunday. Wenn auch ihr gerne im Schlafanzug oder auch nicht am Sonntag gemütlich näht, dann klickt doch rüber und verlinkt euch. Dann kommen wir alle vorbei und gucken was ihr Schönes gemacht habt und ihr könnt euch anschauen was die anderen genäht haben.
Wie einige von Euch schon wissen, habe ich z.Z Besuch von meinen Zwillingsnichten im Alter von 7 Jahren. Bereits als letztes Jahr nur eine von beiden hier war, mußte unbedingt genäht werden. Und so war auch dieses Mal die erste Frage, als sie in meinem Auto saßen:"Wann nähen wir?"
Naja irgendwie hatte ich das ja geahnt, aber dieses Mal hatten sie schon große Wünsche. N1 wollte gerne einen längeren, geraden Rock und N2 am liebsten bitte eine Tasche mit Klappe und noch nem Fach drinnen.
Das war zuviel für mich...nein, nicht mit zwei wuseligen Siebenjährigen, die noch keine Nähmaschinen Erfahrung haben.
Wir haben uns dann darauf geeinigt, dass sie erst einmal einen "Stoff" herstellen müssen, aus dem wir dann eine Kleinigkeit nähen würden. Und was hatten sie für einen Spaß. Ich habe sie auf den Boden im Nähzimmer gesetzt, meine ganzen Stoffrestekisten um sie herum gestellt und ihnen gesagt, dass sie kleine Stoffstückchen abschneiden sollen, die sie dann hinlegen und wir bügeln sie dann fest.
Und das sah dann so aus:

As some of you already know my twin nieces are visiting for the moment. And as I expected, they would ask me to sew. Well said and done. What I didn´t know was that N1 had told her sister that Aunt Kirsten could sew anything with them. Therefore they came up with the wildest ideas. N1 wanted to have a tight long skirt and N2 wanted a bag with a flap and a second pocket inside. Great - but not with me.
O.K. so I told them they could sew a small thing but would have to "make" their fabric first.

I grabbed all my scraps, set it up around the little ones on the floor and got them started:" Cut small pieces and arrange them here and Kirsten will iron them on later".
And here´s what that looked like:

Nachdem sie fertig waren und alles auf Vliesofix gelegt hatten, bügelte ich die Teile und klebte sie auf einen anderen Stoff. Dann haben wir uns hingesetzt, Kirsten hinten und ein Kind vor mir - ich habe den Stoff geführt und meine Nichten haben auf mein Kommando Gas gegeben oder eben nicht. Wir haben viel gelacht :-)

Once finished I ironed the stuff with fusible web to a second fabric and we started sewing - Kirsten in the back and one child in front of me. Me holding the fabric and my nieces hiiting the power - I tell you, we had fun!

Das war gestern. Heute haben sie dann beschlossen, das sie Kissen daraus machen wollen und sie durchsuchten als erstes meine Stoffvorräte nach passenden Stoffen und ner Rückseite. Dann wurde so wie gestern genäht und wir haben tatsächlich einigermassen nette Kissen zustande gebracht.

That was yesterday. Today they decided they wanted to make pillow cases and they searched for matching fabric they liked for the back. Than we started sewing the same way we did yesterday and actually managed to finish a fairly nice pillow.

We had a few more adventures, but I will tell about those at a later time, since I feel like they stole all my energie :-) (they got up at 6 a.m. and hopped into my bed to kuddle :-)

Wow diese Woche gab es mehr als genug Überraschungen. Als erstes Mal habe ich Post aus AUSTRALIEN bekommen. Meine erste Post aus Australien (warum finde ich das aufregend? naja egal :-) )
Blogger sind doch die coolsten Menschen. Da schickt mir meine Blogfreundin Shay doch tatsächlich "Fabric Sheets" mit denen man per Computer und Drucker Quiltlabel machen kann. Wie cool ist das denn? Und ich hatte NUR um eine Adresse gebeten. wo ich das bestellen kann. Danke, Shay! Das war wunderbar!!

Wow this week I had more than enough surprises. First I got mail from AUSTRALIA!!! It is the first time ever I got mail from AUSTRALIA - funny but I was really excited - I mean that stuff travelled a very long way! My very dear Blogger friend decided to send my fabric sheets for labeling my quilts, and all I had asked for was an adress where I could order them. SHAY YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!! Don´t you just love blogger friends - those people are the coolest, especially those who blog and quilt :-) Now I can professionally label my quilts should I ever finish any - hahaha!

Dann komme ich gestern nach Hause und es liegt ein nachträgliches Geburtstagspäckchen von Andrea in meinem Briefkasten...und wieder hüpfte mein Herz....noch mehr türkis/braune Stoffe...und so schöne noch dazu.
Liebe Andrea, vielen Dank. Ich habe mich riesig gefreut und finde die Stoffe klasse.

Next I come home from a very bad day at work yesterday and find a small package from Andrea in the mail. She had all forgotten about my birthday and sent a belated birthday gift. THANKS ANDREA!! Don´t you just love those fabrics? More brown/turquoise. I love it!!!

Und dann kam noch völlig überraschend (naja nicht ganz, denn Katharina hatte mich schon "gewarnt") meine erste Online-Stoff-Bestellung hier an. Ich hatte am Dienstag spät abends noch bei Planet Patchwork Stoff geordert. Und am Donnerstag war der Stoff schon da!!! Der Hammer, so eine schnelle Lieferung habe ich selten gesehen. Und der Stoff entsprach genau der Abbildung. Jetzt kann ich das Projekt "Redwork" in Angriff nehmen.

And yet another surprise. I ordered fabric online for the first time on Tuesday - late in the evening. Planet-patchwork was my choice and I really like their assortment.
And totally unbelievable that order arrived at my house on Thursday! Can you believe that? I never in my wildest dream would have thought any online store would be so fast. And the fabrics lookes exactly like the pictures on the Internet. Now project "Rework" can go into phase 2. )

15-Minute Update

Seit einiger Zeit versuche ich ja jeden Tag 15 Minuten zu handarbeiten/basteln und ich habe es tatsächlich mal wieder fast geschafft. Aber vermutlich nur, weil es einen Feiertag mit Brückentag gab :-)

Obwohl ich zugebe, dass ich Sonntag bis Montag nur ungefähr 10 Minuten dran war, da ich ziemliche Probleme mit meinem Ellenbogen habe und deswegen etwas kürzer treten muss.

Treffen der Hobbyschneiderinnen in Aachen/ Internet forum meeting in Aachen

Gestern war in mit meiner Freundin Martina in Aachen zum Forumstreffen der Hobbyschneiderinnen. Für uns beide war es das erste Mal auf so einem Treffen und wir fanden es richtig nett. War schon lustig einige der Leute mal in real zu sehen oder kennenzulernen. Zumal wir an einem lustigen Tisch mit Rory, Strickforumsfrieda, right guy, peterle und zeitweise auch Anne und ihren Kindern saßen.
Alles in allem ein schöner Ausflug den man durchaus wieder einmal unternehmen kann.

Yesterday my friend Martina and I drove to Aachen (350 km) to go to a meeting from an internet forum for sewing people. It was very interesting to meet people you usually only read off in real life. Especially since we were seated at a very funny table with a bunch of hilarious people.
All in all a nice trip which I´d like to take again next year.

FTF on Saturday or "Endlich fertig"

Ja gestern war Freitag und somit eigentlich Zeit wieder mal mit Shay und anderen zusammen meine Lieblingssachen einzustellen. Aber es war einfach zu spät gestern Abend. Drum also nun am Samstag. Und heute ist es einfach, denn meine neue -gerade fertig gewordene- Tasche ist mein heutiges Lieblingsteil.

Diese Tasche hat mich reichlich Nerven gekostet, da ich noch selten so eine schlechte Anleitung in der Hand hatte. Mit telefonischem Beistand von Katharina konnten wir dann allerdings gemeinsam herausfinden, wie das alles zu verstehen sei und mit ein bischen Ahnung vom Nähen habe ich es dann geschafft, meine Tasche gestern fertig zu bekommen.
Innen ist sie aus weißem Leinen und hat eine aufgesetzte Tasche und gegenüberliegend ein Klettband. An dieses kommt noch eine kleinere Tasche, die ich aber erst noch nähen muss.
Die Anleitung hatte ich von der Creativa mitgebracht, ebenso wie das Zubehör. Die Stoffe habe ich allesamt zum Geburtstag bekommen.
Die Tasche ist ein Multitalent und läßt sich als große Tasche, als halbgroße Tasche und als Rucksack verwenden. Zudem ist sie groß genug, um Zeug für 1-2 Übernachtungen locker zu verstauen. Ich bin begeistert!!!!

O.K. I am late again. But I had to finish my FTF first before I could write a post. And here it is:
Todays FTF is my new bag!!
I love this bag, even though I almost didn´t manage to finish it. I have yet to find such a poor pattern!!! Nothing in there was actually working. But thanks to Katharina who saved me on the telephone the two of us figured out together what they meant.
I bought the pattern at the craft fair earlier this year and the fabric is all from my birthday.
The bag is pretty cool cause you can either use it full size, half size or as a backpack.

And it easily holds stuff for a one or two night trip.The inside is white linen and has a simple pocket and velcro which is supposed to hold a small extra bag which I have yet to sew :-)

Geschafft! SAR successful!!

Geschafft! Das "Kind" hat eine neue Bleibe. Erst einmal für eine Woche, wenn sie möchte kann sie aber auch für die kompletten drei Monate bleiben. Ein Dank an die Kirche, die uns wieder einmal gerettet hat. Und einen Dank an Eva Maria von den Hobbyschneiderinnen, für diesen tollen Tipp. Unsere Große fühlt sich pudelwohl und hat gestern auch ihren ersten Arbeitstag unbeschadet überstanden.
Wie ihr seht gibt es also durchaus Gründe dafür, dass es hier im Moment etwas ruhiger ist. Das Praktikum sollte eigentlich in Florida statt finden und alles war schon eingetütet, als sie vor drei Wochen von der Agentur erfuhr, dass kein Visum ausgestellt wird (liegt an dem Arbeitgeber für den sie das Praktikum machen wollte - sehr kompliziert). Also dann in Windeseile versuchen etwas anderes zu finden. USA schied wegen der Vorlaufzeit für ein Visum aus und so waren wir alle etwas im Stress.

Zeitgleich hat unsere jüngere Tochter ihre Abschlussprüfungen für die mittlere Reife geschrieben. Auch hier große Aufregung. Sie hat sich im letzten Halbjahr noch einmal enorm in den Leistungen gesteigert, so dass sie jetzt sogar die gymnasiale Oberstufe machen lönnte. Also auch hier viel Grübelei - Ausbildungsplatz behalten oder lieber Abitur/Fachabitur machen.
Letzten Endes ist nun die Enstcheidung gefallen und sie wird noch zwei Jahre die Fachoberschule besuchen und das Fachabitur machen.

Mädels ich bin stolz auf Euch.

Ich war während dessen nicht ganz untätig. Nachdem meine Nähmaschine mal wieder kaputt war und zum Händler musste, habe ich Redwork gestickt und gestrickt. Seit vorgestern ist meine Näma wieder bei mir und heute werde ich auch wieder etwas produzieren, so dass Ihr heute Abend oder spätestens morgen Bilder zu sehen bekommt. Schließlich ist heute Feiertag und ich habe ein langes Wochenende vor mir!!!

Done, our daughter (well my stepdaughter) has a new place to stay. Thanks to the church we were once again saved. And thanks to Eva Maria from the Hobbyschneiderinnen.de platform who gave us that very good information. Kiddo can stay for a week and than decide whether she likes it or not. In case it still suits her, she can stay for the whole duration of her internship. And she is so happy!!
The whole ordeal started about three weeks ago. Kiddo was supposed to do her internship in Orlando/Florida. Three weeks ago she was told that the agency she was supposed to work for wasn´t eligable for a visa, so she won´t be able to go. Well we were all stressed out, since we had to find her /with her a new place and she absolutely didn´t want to stay in Germany.

At the same time our younger daughter wrote her finals at the end of tenth grade. Those are very important in Germany since they basically decide about your future. Well, to make long things short, her grades went up again enormously and she is eligable to go on with school (it is kind of like going to junior college now - but only kind of). So we had to come up with another decision, that would change her life - school or work. In Germany there are still a lot of professions which you learn in an on-the-job-training for three years (like nursing, which she was planning to do). Well going on with school for another two years will allow her to get a College degree afterwards which is really cool, because it will open a whole new world of jobs to her later on in her life. So that´s what she is now going to do.

Girls I am proud of you!!

So you see there was quite a reason I didn´t show up here too often. By the way blogger was getting on my nerves too...

But I wasn´t totally uncreative. Even though my sewing machine broke down again and had to return to the dealer AGAIN, I did some Rework and worked some on my knitting. My sewing machine returned back home two days ago and I will definately sew today. So by tonight or tomorrow I should be able to post some pictures. We are having a holiday here in Germany today and I took tomorrow off, which leaves me with FOUR FREE days!! :-) watch me do nothing!!

Dringende Hilfe gesucht! Immediate Help needed

Meine Stieftochter ist seit gestern in England für ein Praktikum. Leider ist das im Internet so toll dargestellte Zimmer der absolute Reinfall - so dreckig, dass sie Angst hat dort ernsthaft zu erkranken. Hinzu kommen kaputte Möbel etc. ein desaströser Zustand. Bis jetzt hat sie noch nicht einmal einen eigenen Schlüssel, so dass sie das Zimmer nur verlassen kann, wenn ein anderer Bewohner des Hauses zu Hause ist, sonst kommt sie nicht mehr rein. Bei ihren Mitbewohnern handelt es sich um zwei junge Männern (laut Internet sollten es zwei Frauen sein)
Hat irgendjemand Verbindungen nach London und kann uns helfen??
Wir suchen ab sofort für sie einen sichere, bezahlbare, saubere Unterkunft für drei Monate zum mieten.

My stepdaughter moved to London/Great Britain yesterday for a three month internship. Unfortunately the room she booked through the internet is more than creepy. It is absolutly filthy. The furniture is broken and she is seriously scared to catch some strange desease there.
Until now she still doesn´t have a key to the house or her room. Her room mates are two young men (in the Internet the roomates were female) and she can only leave the house if one of them is at home otherwise she cannot get back in.

PLEASE: Is there anybody from London reading my blog or anybody who has contacts to people living in London who could help us?
We are looking for a safe, affordable and clean room for rent for three months as of right now!!!

FNSI & A BIRTHDAY

Es war wieder soweit. Freitagabend hatten Heidi und Bobby zum gemeinsamen virtuellen Nähen aufgerufen und nachdem ich alle Vorbereitungen für den heutigen Tag getroffen hatte, habe ich auch mitgenäht. Es wurde Zeit, dass ich endlich das "Schild" für unser Büro fertig nähte.
Nun gut ich habe es fertig, dem besten Ehemann der Welt gefällt es nicht, also wandert es erst einmal in die Geschenke Kiste. Den Rest des Abends habe ich dann gesurft und gestrickt.

Once again Bobby and Heidi hosted a Friday Night Sew In and I decided to participate. It was about time I finished the new "sign" for our "office" at home. And what can I say. I finished, the best husband of all doesn´t like it - the sign goes directly into the gift giving box. The rest of the evening I hung out in the internet and knitted.

Und dann war es endlich Mitternacht und ich konnte anfangen meine vielen Geschenke auszupacken. Noch nie in meinem Leben habe ich soooo viele Geschenke zu einem Geburtstag bekommen. Ich habe nämlich an zwei Geschenke - Tauschrunden teilgenommen und es ist einfach grandios. Das erste ist ein "Stofftausch". Man darf einen Farbwunsch äußern und sich wünschen, ob man lieber Fat Quarter oder long Quarter haben möchte. Mein Wunsch waren Stoffe in türkis und/oder braun und seht was ich Geniales bekommen habe. Jedes Stöffchen war begleitet von Süßem oder einer Kleinigkeit für´s Nähzimmer, wie Nadelmäppchen, Garn etc.

And then it was midnight. Yeah...finally I could start unwrapping all my gifts. I have never ever received so many gifts for a birthday before in my entire life!!! I participated in two gift swaps here in Germany.
They work in two different but very fun ways: in the first one there are 14 participants and we basically give each other fabric for our birthdays. You get to make a color choice and decide whether you would rather receive fat or long quarters. Well I wanted turquoise and/or brown. And look what I got....amazing. Each gift was accompanied by candy or a little treat for the sewing room- like yarn, a neddle book etc.

Der andere Tausch funktioniert etwas anders. Hier näht jeder vier Geschenke und wenn er fertig ist, sagt er Bescheid. Die Initiatorin mischt dann die Teilnehmer und teilt einem im Laufe eines Jahres mit, an wen man seine Geschenke schicken soll. Das heißt hier bekommt man vier Geschenke von wildfremden Leuten zu seinem Geburtstag. Ich war sehr gespannt, was das werden würde, da ich ja auch hier das erste Mal teilnahm. Und ich sollte nicht enttäuscht werden. Aber seht selbst:
The other swap works differently: here you sew four gifts - whatever you like - anything goes from mugrugs to bags, from pillow cases to pot holders. Once you are finished you tell your swap mom and she then tells you within one year who your gift goes to. That means on your b-day you receive four gifts from people you don´t know. I was very excited about this one since I really didn´t know what to expect, but the gifts were great. Look for yourself.

Favourite Things Friday

Heute ist es wieder soweit. Freitag, der Tag an dem wir uns bewußt machen, wie gut es uns geht und was es alles für tolle Dinge gibt, für die man dankbar sein und über die man sich freuen kann.
Schaut mal bei Shay vorbei, die das Ganze ins Leben gerufen hat.

Wer mich ein bischen besser kennt weiß, dass ich es liebe mein Haus umzuräumen. Da wechseln die Möbel von einer Etage zur anderen und die Zimmer ändern häufiger mal ihr Aussehen. Und so kam es dass ich letztes Wochenende dann auch mal wieder geräumt habe. Das Gästezimmer bekam ein neues Outfit und das Nähzimmer wurde ausgeräumt, entmüllt, gesäubert und auch ein wenig umgeräumt. Und so kommt es das mein heutiges "Lieblingsteil"

mein NÄHZIMMER ist.

Mein Nähzimmer ist ein nahezu 30 qm großer Kellerraum mit relativ großen Fenstern. Ich habe mir selber einen Zuschneidetisch gebaut der gut 90 tief und ziemlich hoch ist, so dass ich mich nicht bücken muss. Meine Stoffe lagern offen oder in Kisten und Boxen auf meinen Billy Regalen. Insgesamt muss ich sagen ist es mein kleines Paradies, das eigentlich Bastel-/Näh-/Hobbyzimmer heißen müßte, da ich natürlich auch meine Stempel und meine ganzen anderen Bastel- und Handarbeitssachen hier untergebracht habe.

Und wo näht Ihr??

Hier mein Stoffvorrat - ja ich weiß, dass ist eher wenig, aber es reicht!! In den Sammelordner sind mehrere Jahrgänge Burdas und alle meine Quilt-/Patchworkzeitschriften.
My fabric stash - I knew it´s not a whole lot, but enough! On the bottom shelf are mainly burda magazines and all of my quilting magazines from the last ten years.

It´s Friday again and I am glad to announce that blogger is working and we are all able to participate in the wonderful FTF event again. Check out Shay´s Blog for more details and more FTFs

Well people who know me a little closer know that I love to redecorate and rearange furniture. This doesn´t only mean moving stuff around within one room, no, in this house rooms change their purpose. The old office will become a guestroom, the old guestroom a sewing room and so on. Last weekend I didn´t go as far as actually moving from one room to another, but I redecorated my step daughther's room to be our new guest room and I cleaned, sorted, threw out stuff, redecorated and moved furniture in my sewing room. And hence it might not surprise, that todays favourite is

my sewing room

My sewing room is about 30 square meters which is a pretty good size...actually it is heaven for me. (I think it is the second largest room in this house :-) )

I built my own cutting table since I was sick and tired suffering from back pain after cutting out patterns or fabric. My stash is on IKEA shelves mostly in boxes that are half way labeled (until the label machine ran out of tape).

All in all this is my retreat and my little paradies which actually is far more than a sewing room since I also store all my other stamping/crafting/needlework/stitching stuff here.

Where do you sew?

Hier sitze ich zum Nähen. In den Schubladenkästen vorne im Bild sind alle Kleinigkeiten von Nadeln bis zu Schrägband, Rollschneidern bis Stickgarn untergebracht.

This is where I sit and sew. In the little wooden drawers I store all the little stuff from rotary cutters to needles, from bias binding to machine quilting thread.

This is my cutting table. In the front are quilting books and folders with patterns, in the back are boxes holding interfacing and ufos.

Mein "Ecke der Inspiration". Wenn ich nicht mehr weiter weiß, setzte ich mich hier hin, mach ne schöne DVD an oder das Radio und lass mich inspirieren. Manchmal sitze ich hier auch zum Handnähen oder quilten, obwohl ich das eher im Wohnzimmer mache.

Das Baby Quilt hat einen Namen. Da ich es zum Festival eingereicht habe, habe ich Sues Idee übernommen und es FESTIVAL getauft. Heute kommt das Label drauf und dann wird es verschenkt.

Heute habe ich endlich den Baby Quilt fertig gemacht. Nicht das die Kleine schon Laufen kann, bevor ich fertig bin.
Ich war ja mit dem Quilt nach meinem Versuch des Maschinennähens nicht mehr so wirklich zufrieden. Naja, nachdem ich dann ein fertig gekauftes Schrägband angenäht habe und das Ganze gewaschen und im Trockner getrocknet habe, gefällt es mir eigentlich doch. Also hatte meine Freundin Shay doch recht ales sie wieder einmal zu mir sagte: Ein Quilt ist erst fertig wenn das Binding dran ist und das Quilt gewaschen ist.

Also werde ich es im Laufe der Woche bei meiner Bekannten abgeben und hoffen, dass sie sich freut.

Nur einen Namen habe ich noch nicht.."die letzte Chance!!" oder "niemals aufgeben" klingen so hart für ein Baby Quilt...irgendwelche Vorschläge?? Mir fällt gerade noch "Lollipop" ein - wie wär es damit?

I finally finished the Baby Quilt today. After my excursion to machine quiltung, I wasn´t to happy with it, but thanks to Shay I did give it a chance, put on some ready made bias binding and now I even like it enough to give it as a gift. All I need is a name.."never give up"..sounds a bit hard for a baby quilt..same goes for..".last chance!"..Any ideas anyone?? I just thought about "Lollipop". What do you think??

Tja...da war Blogger nicht auf Empfang und schon verpasse ich meinen ersten Blog Geburtstag.
Euch allen einen herzlichen Dank für die Unterstützung, die lieben Kommentare und die mächtig vielen Klicks, die mich immer weiter machen ließen.

Well..blogger was down and I miss my first blog birthday...thanks to all of you for your wonderful support, your lovely comments and the many, many clicks which kept me going on and on.

Heute habe ich einen kleinen Ikea Einkauf getätigt, danach unser Gästezimmer neu gestaltet, unser unteres Bad auch und dann 6 (!!!) Stunden lang mein Nähzimmer aufgeräumt. Boah war da ein Chaos. Der Kindergarten in dem ich arbeite hat seine Freude darüber ausgedrückt, Stoffe von mir bekommen zu können - ich glaube sie wußten nicht, was auf sie zu kommt - und so habe ich alle Klammottenstoffreste weg getan und meine anderen Stoffe geordnet, Schnitte aufgeräumt, Zeitschriften, etc...es war wirklich mal wieder Zeit. Jetzt freue ich mich darauf morgen auch mal wieder etwas Produktives zu machen. und fühle mich irgendwie zienlich befreit - "wegschneißen und loslassen" ist sooooooo schön.
Sorry, heute ohne Bilder, abermorgen gibt es hoffentlich wieder welche.

After a little Ikea shopping this morning, I redecorated out guest room and our lower bathroom. Than I decided it was long time to clean and clear out my sewing room. The day care center I work with was excited when I asked them, whether they could use some fabric left overs. I am sure they don´t have a clue what they got themselves into. I got rid of ALL my fabric leftovers from clothes sewing.
Well it feels great - and after 6 (!!!) hours of cleaning my sewing room I am now looking forward to actually getting something done tomorrow.
Sorry no pics today, but hopefully tomorrow.

Redwork!

Eine neue Leidenschaft. Ich sticke ja für mein Leben gern - bislang aber nur Kreuzstich - (deshalb mag ich wohl auch handquilten) und so wollte ich schon lange mal ein Redwork Quilt beginnen. Nachdem ich bei Shay ihr Redwork gesehen habe, mußte ich gleich auch damit anfangen. Also noch ein neues Projekt. Naja muß wohl so sein. Und so habe ich heute meine erste "Mitte" gestickt - und es gefällt mir!!!

A new obsession. I love to handstich, but so long I have only done counted crossstich. But I have forever wanted to do a red work quilt. So after seeing Shay´s beautiful blocks I absolutely had to do this. And therefore I started my first red work block today and I love it!!

Jaja..das war die Sache mit den Vorsätzen und den nicht eingetretenen Resulaten. Zu deutsch: ich habe NIX getan!! O.k. ich habe am Muttertag ein kleines bischen gestrickt und gestern ein paar Anleitungen ausgedruckt. Das war´s...leider!
Hier könnt ihr gucken, ob die anderen erfolgreicher waren.

Well no news is not always good news. I didn´t really do anything this week, except for a little bit of knitting on Sunday and printing and tracing some patterns last night. Sorry...but that was all I could manage....

15 Minutes-Update

Und wieder ist Dienstag und Zeit zu reflektieren. Habe ich meine Ziele für die Woche erreicht? Habe ich täglich 15 Minuten meinem Hobby gewidmet?
Na Logo!!! Ich hatte ja auch Urlaub. So habe ich eigentlich jeden Tag irgendwie gewerkelt und auch richtig was geschafft.
- eine helle Leinenhose für mich
- Schlafanzughose für Tochter
- 2 T-Shirts für mich
- Baby Quilt gequiltet
- einige Baby Blocks genäht
- und heute noch ein T-Shirt fertig gemacht.
Ich bin zufrieden.
Und hier die anderen Teilnehmer!

It is already Tuesday and time to reflect on the week and see how I met my goals. Did I really get 15 minutes a day in? Well you betcha I did. I was on leave from work and had a lot of fun - sewing and ripping off :-)
And I really got a lot done:
- a pair of linen pants
- a pair of pjyama pants for my daughter
- 2 Shirts for myself
- machine quilted baby quilt
- put some more baby blocks together
- and finally just made another shirt.
I am satisfied.
See how everybody else did.

Pyjama Party mit Marg und ein neues Shirt

Marg veranstaltet seit ein paar Wochen jeden Sonntag eine virtuelle Pyjama Näh Party. Sprich eine kleine Linkparty, wo sich jeder eintragen darf, der am Samstag oder Sonntag im Schlafanzug oder in Gammelklammotten schön gemütlich zu Hause war und seinem liebsten Hobby dem Nähen gefröhnt hat.
Da ich gestern ja mal wieder erfolgreich genäht habe und mein Shirt fertig geworden ist, werde ich mich da mal verlinken und dachte ich erzähle euch davon, denn vielleicht hat ja der/die ein oder andere Lust dort mal zu gucken oder sich selber zu verlinken.
Mein Shirt ist Simplicity 7481. Ein toller Schnitt, der mir ohne irgendwelche Änderungen in Größe 42 gepasst hat.
Und weil es so schön aussah, habe ich dann das Outfit aus Leinenhose und Wickelshirt direkt angelassen, um mit meinem Mann zum HR 1dancefloor ins Gleis 1 in Kassel zu gehen. Es war ein toller Abend und wir haben 4 (!!) Stunden ohne Unterbrechung getanzt. Dementsprechend brennen auch heute noch die Füße, aber schöööööööööööön war es!

A few weeks ago Marg started hosting a Sunday Pjyama Sewing Linky Party. Well and since I don´t know whether or not I´ll end up sewing today, I at least wanted to link up my Saturday PJ sweing. Well I didn´t stay in my PJs but in sweat pants and t-shirt all day (according to Marg that also counts :-) ) and I actually finished a new shir. The pattern is Simplicity (Germany) 7481. A beautiful and fairly easy pattern which fitted perfectly in a size 16. I was so happy ´cause I didn´t have to make any alterations at all. Not even lenght wise and I am 5´10".
And since the outfit with light linen trousers and new wrap shirt looked so good, my husband decided to take me out for dinner and dancing to the HR 1 dancefloor in Kassel. It was so cool. It´s a 30 and up party hosted every four weeks by a local radio station and we danced 4 hours straight without interruption. My feet are still burning, but I really enjoyed it.

Nicht das ihr denkt es wird niiiiie fertig. Hier die weiße Leinenhose und das rote Shirt. Die Hose spannt ein wenig um den Bauch herum - ich muss wohl mal wieder etwas abnehmen :-)

Not that you even think about me not finishing my stuff. Finally the white linen trousers and the red (for Shay :-) ) shirt are finished.
The pants are a little tight around my hips (or my fat tummy) which gives me a good reason to loose some weight! :-)

Favourite Things Friday mit Shay

Schon als Kind bin ich dem Rollschuhlaufen verfallen. Als Jugendliche gab es dann die sogenannten Rollerskates - vier Rollen, Stopper, Leinenschuhe - oh ich war im siebten Himmel. Dazu gab es bei uns zu Hause auch noch eine Rollschuhdisko einmal im Monat und dort war ich Stammkundin.

Jahre später entdeckte ich Inlineskaten als mein Hobby. Neben dem Fahrrad fahren ist das meine Lieblingssportart und so ist es im Sommer eine beliebte Beschäftigung in unserem Haus - abends nochmal schnell ne Runde am Fluss entlang - einfach herrlich.
Und NATÜRLICH mußten meine Inliner ORANGE sein....ihr habt nicht wirklich was anderes erwartet oder??
Und vergesst nicht auch mal bei Shay zu gucken, was die anderen so für Favouriten haben.

As a child I already loved roller skating. Do you remember those first skates...you wore real shoes and put the things under...wow..long time ago. As a teenager disco skates were hype and we even had a roller skates disco once a month on Sunday afternoon. I loved it and was a regular guest.

Well years later I discovered Inline skating. And I love it. I´ve been skating for almost ten years. Next to riding my bike it is my favourite sport in the summer season. There is nothing more relaxing than skating along the river in the evening after work. So in the summer time I meet my husband after work and we go for a stroll..so cool.
And of course MY skates had to be ORANGE. Guess no one who reads this blog really expected anything else.

Nicht ganz wie gewollt../ Not quite as expected..

..lief es in den letzten zwei Tagen. Zuerst habe ich das Baby Quilt geheftet und gequiltet mit der Maschine - nein ich finde es nicht schön. Und ich denke ich mag einfach lieber handgequiltete Sachen. Jetzt werde ich knalliges Schrägband drumrum basteln und das Ganze mal heiß waschen, dass es ein wenig "crinkled" und hoffen, dass es dann ansehnlicher wird.

..were the last two days. At first I started basting and machine quilting my baby quilt, but I have to say that I don´t really like it. Shay gave me the tip to wash the quilt hot and put it in the dryer to crinkle it..we´ll see if it helps.

Dann hab ich Annikas zweite Schlafanzughose genäht. Alles lief wie geplant im Schnelldurchlauf fertig. Kind zufrieden. Was will ich mehr.
Und weil es so gut lief habe ich auch noch eine Leinenhose für mich und ein T-Shirt zugeschnitten. So weit, so gut.

Than I finished another pair of PJ pants for Annika. They were fast and easy and turned out exactly as I wanted. In the evening I cut out fabric for a pair of linen pants and a t-shirt.

Doch dann kam der Mittwoch. Ein Tag den ich vielleicht besser aus meinem Nähleben streiche. Voller Vorfreude auf die Hose begab ich mich ins Nähzimmer und fing an zu versäubern. Und ich ahnte schon es wird ein mieser Tag, nachdem mir gefühlte 1000 mal der Faden gerissen ist und ich meine Ovi jedes Mal neu einfädeln mußte.
Eigentlich war ich da schon bedient, dachte aber ich lass mich nicht unterkriegen und habe angefangen die Hose zusammen zu nähen. Irgendwie war es mir ja schon suspekt, dass die Hüftpassentaschen irgendwie komisch aussahen, aber wie ich nun mal bin, habe ich fleißig weitergenäht, schön doppelt abgesteppt - es sollte ja schön werden - nur um dann festzustellen, dass ich die Taschen an die rückwärtigen Hosenteile rangefummelt hatte. Also alles wieder aufgetrennt und neu genäht. Voller Freude will ich dann die Hosenbeine ineinander stecken und stelle fest, dass man so doof wie ich eigentlich nicht sein kann: ich habe doch tatsächlich zwei rechte Hosenbeine genäht. O.K. und wieder auftrennen.
Mittlerweile war ich so gefrustet, dass ich das Nähzimmer verlassen habe, mein Auto geschnappt habe und zu meinem Lieblingswollladen gefahren bin, um mich mit Material für mein nächstes Werk auszustatten.

And then the desaster started. The next morning I got up early all eager to sew. Trying to serge the pants my serger tore the yarn a million and one times and I had to rethread the darn thing over and over again. Sewing the pants together I realized that I had put the front pockets on the back. Ok - ripped it out - redid it. And than found out that I had sewn two right legs. Well at that point I was so mad at myself that I went to my favourite wool shop and bought some new material for a nice jacket. Seems it wasn´t a good day for sewing.

Abends hatte ich dann noch einen Termin bei meiner Nageldesignerin und ich bin fast ausgeflippt als ich gesehen habe, was sie für Stempel Motive hatte: KNÖPFE!! Die mußte ich haben - ich finde sie sooooo cool!!
Hoffentlich wird der heutige Tag besser, denn ich möchte meine Sachen wirklich fertig machen.

In the evening then I had an appoinment with my nail designer - and look what I found: she actually had buttons as nail stamps - I had to have those - I love them!!
Hopefully today will be a better day for sewing, since I really want to finish my projects.

Samstag: Svea fertiggestellt
Sonntag: Schlafihose versäubert
Montag: Schlafihose fertig genäht und Babyblocks weitergenäht

Also dieses mal 6/7. Das ist gut, ich bin stolz auf mich!!
Hier könnt ihr sehen, wie erfolgreich die anderen waren.

Und hier die Pläne für die nächten zwei Tage:
Damit nicht wieder der Urlaub vorbei ist und ich nix geschafft bekomme, habe ich mich mit Tamara zusammengetan und wir haben beschlossen die nächsten zwei Tagen unserem Hobby zu widmen. Zufälligerweise hat sie nämlich auch gerade Urlaub und unsere Männer müssen beide arbeiten. Also von 10:00 bis 18:00 Uhr ist Powernähen angesagt. Mal sehen was ich schaffe, auf alle Fälle möchte ich zwei Quilts heften und eventuell mit Maschine quilten, sowie TK eine weitere Schlafanzughose nähen.
Also dann...los gehts!!

That is 6/7. Wow...way to go.I am proud of myself!! And here are the others achievements this week!

Since I usually just hang around during free time and don´t get much of my plans accomplished I decided to do some "hardcore sewing" the next two days. Tamara, a blogging friend of mine, is also off work this week. And since both of our husbands have to go and earn some money, we decided to spend today and tomorrow sewing.
The plan is to sew from 10:00 a.m to 6 p.m daily!! Lets see what we get finished.

My plan:
- layer, baste and machine (!) quilt two quilts
- sew PJ pants for Annika
sew T-Shirt and pants for me

101 Dinge in 1001 Tagen Update/ 101 things in 1001 days

Melody genießt Ostern /Melody enjoying Easter

Vor fast zehn Monaten habe ich meine "große" Liste der 101 Dinge geschrieben und veröffentlicht. Leider habe ich zwischenzeitlich völlig vergessen, dass ich ja auch zu jedem Punkt den ich erledigt habe einen Post schreiben wolte. Nun ja, auf alle Fälle ist es an der Zeit mal ein kurzes Update zu geben, wie es läuft.
Also ich habe ungefähr die Hälfte meiner Punkte erledigt. Das hat mich selbst überrascht, wenn gleich es wohl auch die einfacheren Dinge waren. Einige Dinge habe ich auch nicht so 100%ig im Blick, z.B. die Sachen mit dem jeden Monat/viermal im Jahr etc.
Aber insgesamt bin ich sehr zufrieden mit meinem Erfolg. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass es so gut läuft.
Und wie sieht es bei Euch aus? Ich weiß, dass ja noch einige andere so eine Liste gemacht haben. Wie weit seid ihr? Seid ihr überhaupt noch dabei?

About ten months ago I started writing a list of 101 things I wanted to accomplish in 1001 days. Well I guess it is time to bring everyone up to date.
The first thing is that I was going to write a post about everything I got accomplished. Well I forgot alll about that, but marked the things red on my list. Unfortunately the list is in German so you will have to ask M.r Translator from google or anywhere else for help. Or simply ask me..I didn´t feel like rewriting the whole list in english. Please forgive me.
Anyways, back to the topic: I got almost half of the list completed even though I have more than half of the time left. I do admit that I probably hit the easy tasks first, but oh well..
Anybody else has/had a list like that? How are you doing? Did/do you stick to it?

15 minutes update

Die Woche war was handarbeiten angeht nicht von Erfolg gekrönt. Aber ab übermorgen habe ich 10 Tage URLAUB!!! Und ich hoffe, dann etwas getan zu kriegen. Auf der anderen Seite zieht es mich bei dem schönen Wetter einfach mit einem guten Buch in die Sonne und das ist auch gut so.

This week wasn´t very successful in regard to crafting or sewing. But as of Thursday I have 10 days off from work and I hope to get some things accomplished then. On the other hand I want to spend as much time outside as possible with the weather being as beuatiful as it is. I much more like sitting in my lounge chair reading a good book than in the basement sewing. And that is o.k.

Mittwoch/Wednesday: Schnitt auf Stoff gesteckt, pinned pattern to fabric

Donnerstag/Thursday: nix, nothing

Freitag/Friday: nix, nothing

Samstag/Saturday: Svea zugeschnitten; cut out fabric for tunic top

Sonntag/Sunday: zwei Blöcke vom Batikquilt gequiltet; quilted two blocks on batic quilt

Montag/Monday: nix, nothing

Dienstag/Tuesday: mal sehen aber vermutlich auch nix, we`ll see but most likely: nothing

Well that makes it 3/7...:-( and there is obviously room for improvement. Lets see what the others accomplished.

Naja das sind dann 3 von sieben Tagen..durchaus steigerungsfähig. Mal sehen was die anderen geschafft haben.

...sie tut´s wieder. Nachdem die Kamera gestern direkt nach dem Sturz erst einmal keinen Mucks mehr machte und kurze Zeit später "Speicherkartenfehler" anzeigte habe ich schon das Schlimmste befürchtet. Vor allem, weil bei Tante Google jemand einen ähnlichen Fehler hatte und die Reparatur 480,-€ gekostet hat.
Da hat der beste Ehemann der Welt beschlossen, dass es schlimmer nimmer geht und WD 40 in den Kartenslot gesprüht und seitdem geht die Kamera wieder. Boah ich bin ja sowas von erleichtert.
*hoffentlich bleibt das lange so, die Kamera hat mal um die 600€ gekostet*

...she is working again. Right after I picked up the camera from the ground it didn´t do nothing. After a while it always said "card error". I was already horryfied, since I had read in google that a repair would cost about 480,-€...
Well the best husband of all decided, that there can´t be anymore damage done and sprayed some WD 40 into the card slot...and what can I say:
She is working....
*I sure hope it stays like that for a long time. We are talking a 800$ cam*

...oder wie meine digitale Spiegelreflexkamera fliegen lernte!

Nach einem netten Vormittag mit Formel 1 gucken und ein bischen quilten, haben wir uns entschlossen einen Ausflug zu machen. Naja der besuchte Ostermarkt hatte diesen Namen nicht verdient und wir sind noch ein Stück weiter an die Weser gefahren. Dort wollten wir ein Stück spazieren gehen. Voller Freude hob ich meinen Camerarucksack aus dem Auto und schwang ihn mir auf den Rücken....

und schon hatte meine Camera fliegen gelernt....mit Schwung und in hohem Bogen landete sie krachend auf dem Asphalt....

Ich hatte vergessen den Reißverschluß zu zumachen und das rächte sich...

...danach sind wir nach Hause gefahren und ich hatte keinerlei Lust mehr IRGENDWAS zu machen.

...or how I taught my SLR Camera to fly!!!

Well after a nice easygoing morning watching a little Formula one on TV and quilting while doing that, my husband and I decided to go to an Easter Market, which didn´t deserve that name. So we went a little further to the river Weser to go for a nice walk. Excited that I had taken my camera along to take blog pictures, I swung my photo backpack over my shoulder and...

....Baaaaaaaaam...

...my SLR Camera was flying high and slammed onto the concrete...

...stupid me had forgotten to close the zipper!!!

After that incident we went straight home and I did not feel like doing ANYTHING for the rest of the day.

Also ich bin grade nicht zu so ganz viel zu gebrauchen. Deshalb gibt es Favourite Things Friday heute am Samstag und am FNSI habe ich gleich gar nicht mitgemacht...schnief..aber für heute und morgen habe ich mir fest vorgenommen zu nähen.

Well I am no good at the moment. I didn´t post FTF on time and didn`t sew anything on Friday night. Naughty, naughty...but I promise to get some sewing in this weekend.

Ohne Bilder/ no Pics

Heute einen kurzen Post ohne Bilder.
Gestern habe ich Stoff für eine neue Svea rausgesucht und dann kam meine kleine Tochter (1,84m lang :-) ) und meinte sie bräuchte noch dringend zwei Schlafanzughosen für ihren Urlaub bei Papa. Der beginnt am Samstag...hahaha..nun wißt ihr was ICH heute und morgen nach der Arbeit machen werde!

Just a short post:
Yesterday I went into my sewing room to check what new project I could start. I was excited when I found fabric and a corresponding pattern for a nice tunic top. All of a sudden my peacefulness was interrupted by my little one (1,84m tall :-) ) who asked me whether I was in the mood to sew her two new PJ pants for her next trip to her Dad - only problem is...the trip starts Saturday.
O.k. don´t we all love our kids? Well you know what I´ll be sewing the next two nights. :-)

15-Min. täglich? 15 minutes a day?

Ja, ich habe wieder mal versucht die 15 Minuten täglich zu schaffen und es ist mir fast gelungen. Dienstag, Mittwoch und Donnerstag habe ich mich noch meinem Pullover gewidmet. Freitag dann meiner neuen Hose. Diese mußte zugeschnitten und am Samstag dann versäubert werden. Sonntag habe ich sie fertig genäht und mich total gefreut, dass ich sie Euch zeigen kann, aber da wurde ja nichts draus. Gestern habe ich dann geschmolt und ein bischen in meinen Nähheften und -büchern geschmökert (zählt das auch???). Und heute kann ich den Sieg über die Hose vermelden. Ich fühle mich super wohl in der Hose und würde behaupten, dass sie super sitzt (sagt mein Mann übrigens auch) und sie macht, dass ich dünner aussehe :-) Aber wenn ich die Bilder sehe, bin ich mir da gar nicht mehr so sicher.

Did it - 7 out of 7 - at least more or less. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I worked on finishing the sweater. Friday I started cutting the pants. Saturday I started sewing the pants, which I meant to finish on Sunday. Well you know what happened and therefore I was mad all day Monday and spent time leafing through my sewing books and journals to find a good solution. (does that count?)Today I finally succeeded and got the pants finished.
I feel like they fit really well, I like them and they are comfortable...and they make me look thinner than I am!!
But looking at the pictures I am not really sure anymore.

Eigentlich hatte ich mich gefreut, euch heute eine neue Hose präsentieren zu können - eigentlich! Aber leider bin ich mal wieder ein bischen blond gewesen. Aber der Reihe nach:
Ich hatte mich vor einigen Tagen entschieden, dass ich eine neue Hose aus dem grünen Leinen nähe. Gesagt, getan. Als Schnitt habe ich mir einen alten Schnitt rausgesucht, den ich vor drei Jahren schon einmal genäht hatte. Die damals genähte Hose passt immer noch, also sollte es keine Probleme geben. Die Betonung liegt auf sollte!!! Denn zuerst war die Hose ungefähr so groß, dass meine Tochter noch mit reingepaßt hätte. Also habe ich vorne ein paar Abnäher eingefügt und mich gefreut, weil sie danach gut saß. Dann nur noch den Bund ran und fertig! Doch was mach ich Idiot? Ich nähe den Bund bündig an beide Seiten, also ohne Untertritt UND ohne Übertritt. Tja, die Hose sitzt perfekt, nur leider weiß ich nicht wo ich jetzt meine Knöpfe annähen soll. Und somit bekommt ihr heute nur ein paar Bilder aus meinem Garten.
Was ich übrigens immer noch nicht verstehe ist, warum die Hose soooo weit war/ist? O.k. den Schnitt hatte ich von einer Freundin bekommen - ohne Anleitung - aber ich habe die Hose doch schon mal genäht. Naja...immer wieder neue Geheimnisse tun sich auf beim Nähen. Vielleicht sollte ich doch lieber ne Hose kaufen :-(

Here we go...another pair of pants - finished!! At least that´s what I thought! But from the beginning:
I decided a few days ago that I needed green linen pants (I mean we are having spring at the moment), so I went ahead and grabbed a pattern I had used three years ago. The pants still fit and I figured that would be easy as a breeze. Well - I was wrong. At first the pants turned out way to big. I mean I am not skinny, but those were pants for an elefant!!! So I made them a lot smaller. Then I went ahead and put the waistband on - and realized afterwards that I forgot the "underlap" (is that what it´s called? I hope so) well anyways, I also forgot the overlap and therefore there is no room for buttons. The pants fit perfect - but are not wearable like this! Ughhhhhhhhhhh....the mysteries of sewing - maybe I should just go out and buy some pants.:-(
That is the reason you are only getting some spring pictures, taken in my backyard today.

Nun also mit mir drin. Eigentlich wollte ich euch auch gleich eine passende Hose präsentieren, aber die ist über den Zusatnd des Zuschneidens noch nicht hinaus gekommen. Und da ich heute gearbeitet habe und jetzt noch das schöne Wetter genieße, dachte ich, ich lass Euch nicht länger warten. Den Tragetest hat der Pulli heute auch schon bestanden. Angenehm weich, und durch die Mischung aus Seide und Baumwolle auch nicht zu warm. Ich habe den Kragen länger gemacht und schließlich sogar fixiert. Eigentlich sah das auf dem Bild wie ein richtig langer Rollkragen aus, aber bei meiner Version hing das Teil unmotiviert rum...also ab und ändern. Aber so finde ich es richtig schön.
Hoffe Ihr genießt alle den wunderbaren Sonnenschein..bis bald!

Well this is me wearing the sweater. I wore it all day today and really like it. It isn´t too warm, since it´s cotton and silk. But really comfortable and soft. I had to make some adjustments, since the collar looked really crappy at first, but then I knitted it a little longer and sewed it to the front and back and now I really like it. Amazing huh? I actually like something...I didn´t want to wear it until I finished the coordinating pair of pants, but since I have to work this weekend I figured, why wait. We have wonderful spring weather with temperatures around 20°C. It is awesome.Hope you all have a great weekend too, so long!
Oh and by the way - I already started on the pants! :-)

Auch diese Woche habe ich versucht mich jeden Tag mindestens 15 Minuten meinem Hobby zu widmen. Das ist mir nicht ganz gelungen. Dienstag und Mittwoch habe ich noch gestrickt, Donnerstag zusammen genäht und Freitag und Samstag hatte ich dann Konferenz und keine Zeit zum Handarbeiten. Dafür habe ich Sonntag weiter zusammen genäht, neuen Stoff gekauft und gestern mit dem Rollkragen angefangen. Immerhin 5 von 7 Tagen habe ich durchgehalten.
Oh und übrigens war der Kuchen tatsächlich lecker.
Hier könnt Ihr sehen, was andere Leute in 15 Minuten schaffen.

Again I tried to spent at least 15 minutes a day on my crafting. And I only got it in on 5 out of 7 days. But I have a good excuse. I had a conference on Friday and Saturday - out of town and all day long. Well but here is what I did...pretty boring:
Tuesday and Wednesday I finished knitting my sweater, Thursday I started sewing it together, Sunday I finished the sewing part and went fabric shopping (does that count?) and on Monday I started knitting the collar of the sweater.

Well, so long...oh by the way - the cake ctually tasted great.

Da mein Mann heute seinen Geburtstag feiert, habe ich mich ein wenig künstlerisch betätigt und versucht eine Kirsch-Sahne-Torte zu kreieren - mit mäßigem Erfolg wie ihr seht. Ich hoffe, nur sie schmeckt!

Since it is my husbands birthday today, I decided to try making a Cherry Cake. As you can tell I was only halfway successful - I hope it tastes better than it looks :-)

Nachdem ich den Pulli soweit fertig gestrickt habe, mußte ich ihn nun ja auch zusammen nähen. Ha..und da kam das nächste Problem auf mich zu. Wie kriege ich eine ansehnliche Naht hin bei kraus rechts Gestrick? Nach gefühlten 125 mal Auftrennen, habe ich jetzt eine "Kirsten-Methode" entworfen, die ich grade so in Ordnung finde. Hat jemand noch ne bessere Idee?
Das mit dem Matratzenstich (so wie er im Internet beschrieben ist) klappt irgendwie nicht...also bei mir sieht das NIE wie eine weitere kraus-rechts-Masche aus.
Heute werde ich nicht mehr zum Handarbeiten kommen (meine 15 Minuten habe ich gereade schon zusammengenäht :-) ), da ich heute Abend noch eine Fortbildung habe. Aber ich hoffe, am Wochenende den Kragen stricken zu können und dann gibt es bald Bilder für Euch.

After having finished the major parts of the sweater I had to sew these together. Oh my...never knew it would be so hard to get a nice looking seam. After a million and one seams that I had to rip off again I finally invented the "Kirsten-Method" which is the best I can do to make it look halfway decent. Any better ideas anyone?
I did my 15-minutes today and won´t be getting anymore crafting time in today, since I have a a class to take tonight.
Hopefully I will find some time tomorrow and Sunday to finish the sweater and post some pictures.

Ja ich weiß..es gab schon mal Zeiten an denen ich intensiver gebloggt habe. Aber zur Zeit habe ich einfach wenig Lust, kaum Ideen und kriege auch nichts Tolles fertig. Also gibt es eben mal ein bischen weniger Posts. Ich hoffe, Ihr bleibt mir dennoch treu.
Als erstes möchte ich Bescheid geben, dass Sabine sich gemeldet hat - Ihr braucht sie nicht mehr zu suchen! :-))
Heute ein kleines Update meiner 15-Minuten-fürs-Hobby-Idee. Es klappt- ich bin begeistert und es führt zum Glück auch dazu, dass es meist mehr als 15 Minuten werden. So habe ich diese Woche die Zeit fast ausschließlich zum Stricken genutzt und kann berichten, dass ich wohl in den nächsten Tagen mit dem Pullover fertig werde.
Dienstagabend habe ich auch etwas genäht. Ich brauchte dringend ein paar Wurfsäckchen und kleine Kissen mit Pellets, Kirschkernen etc gefüllt. Da ich noch niedlichen Piratenstoff rumliegen hatte, habe ich den verarbeitet.
Mittwochabend habe ich versucht das orange Kleid enger zu nähen und durch Abnäher etwas "figurnäher" zu machen - missglückt und alles wieder aufgetrennt. :-(
Bis bald mit dem fertigen Pulli...und hier könnt Ihr sehen wer sonst noch versucht jeden Tag 15 Minuten seinem Hobby zu widmen.

I know - there have been times where I posted more, but I just didn´t feel like blogging, no ideas, little inspiration and basically no finishes. But I still wanted to give you an update on the 15-minutes-crafting-daily idea. It works! I used my time his week basically for knitting and can tell you, that I will finish my sweater this week. Whoohooo...actually everytime I ist down to knit for 15 minutes I basically end up knitting for two hours...:-) Tuesday evening I did some sewing for work. I needed litle pillows and had some cute pirate fabric left to work with. Wednesday I tried to alter the orange dress, but failed and had to take the alterations out again. Oh well. Stay tuned for the sweater finish and check here for other participants in the 15-minute-craft-a day!
Oh and by the way: Sabine claimed her price yesterday.

Leider hat sich Sabine noch nicht bei mir gemeldet, um ihren Gewinn zu bekommen. Entweder gefällt er ihr doch nicht (warum hat sie dann mitgemacht?) oder sie hat es noch immer nicht mitbekommen. Ich habe ihr eine email geschrieben, auf die sie auch nicht geantwortet hat. Falls jemand Sabine kennt so bittet sie doch sich bei mir zu melden. Ansonsten gibt es nichts Neues. Ich hatte eine ziemlich mieserable Woche mit starken Kopfschmerzen, habe ein bischen für meine Praxis genäht und gestrickt was das Zeug hält. Und den Rest der Zeit, die ich nicht gearbeitet habe, habe ich mich ungefähr so gefühlt:
